
The turmoil in the Karnataka government seems to be coming to an end. Sources say that Randeep Surjewala reached Chief Minister Siddaramaiah with Rahul Gandhi’s message. During this the Chief Minister replied that he was ready to resign. He will resign tomorrow. However, he has put some conditions. After his resignation, his son will now be made a cabinet minister. No decision has been taken on whether Siddaramaiah will take the Rajya Sabha seat or not.
In this way, change is certain in the 3 year old Karnataka government. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has sought time to meet the Governor. A day earlier, the party high command had asked him to make way for Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar to be made the Chief Minister. However, then he had said that he would talk on this matter on Thursday.
Siddaramaiah will meet Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot tomorrow
Now on Thursday, Siddaramaiah can meet Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and submit his resignation. He will also attend breakfast for his cabinet colleagues including Shivkumar. Amid increasing political activity in the southern state in the hope of a new Chief Minister, AICC Karnataka in-charge General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala made it clear that Congress has not called a meeting of its legislature party in the state and no other decision has been taken yet.
Statement of senior Congress MLA Deshpande
Surjewal asked the media not to speculate on this issue. On the other hand, senior Congress MLA Deshpande has said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told him that he has decided to resign. The former minister, who met Siddaramaiah at his residence, said that when some MLAs insisted that he should not resign, the CM replied that he had conveyed his views to the high command and would respect it.
According to sources, several ministers and MLAs met Siddaramaiah at his residence and talked to him. He insisted that he should not resign. It is also being said that some people also suggested that this matter should be discussed in the legislature party meeting, but Siddaramaiah did not respond positively to any such suggestion.
‘I have made a promise to the high command that is why I am resigning’
Deshpande said, this decision is a surprise for us but Siddaramaiah has decided to resign. Some MLAs wanted him to continue in office but he said that he had expressed his views to the high command and would respect it. The CM said, he has made a promise to the high command and hence is resigning.
