
The Customs Department has taken major action at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Officials have seized a large quantity of hydroponic ganja (marijuana), the value of which is said to be around Rs 48 crore. This is considered to be one of the biggest drug seizures at the airport in recent times. Along with this, two Thai citizens who came from Bangkok have been arrested in this case.
According to customs officials, two Thai citizens who reached Delhi on flight AI-2356 from Bangkok on 22 May 2026 were already under suspicion. It is being told that both the passengers were trying to get out by crossing the green channel. Meanwhile, both the passengers were stopped on the basis of profiling and suspicious activities.
Total 47.805 kg of drugs seized
After this the officials thoroughly checked the bags of both the passengers. During the search, a total of 6 vacuum-sealed packets were recovered in which hydroponic weed i.e. ganja was being brought secretly. Investigation revealed that about 29 kg of ganja was recovered from the bag of one passenger, while about 19 kg of ganja was found in the luggage of another passenger. Altogether 47.805 kg of drugs were seized.
Price around Rs 48 crore
According to the Customs Department, the price of these drugs in the international market has been estimated at around Rs 48 crore. In the initial investigation, it is believed that smugglers were bringing this consignment to India for a high-profile drug network.
Interrogation of both citizens continues
At present both the foreign nationals are being detained and interrogated. The Customs Department is now investigating to whom this consignment was to be delivered to Delhi and which international syndicate is working behind it. The department is trying to trace this entire network.
An Indian arrested from Ahmedabad airport
Here, an Indian citizen has been arrested at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) in Ahmedabad. Customs officials said on Friday that Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials had searched the luggage of the Indian citizen, during which 20.366 kg of ganja kept hidden in vacuum-sealed packets was recovered. This action was taken on the intervening night of 20-21 May after specific intelligence received from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and profiling of incoming passengers.
19 vacuum-sealed packets recovered
It is being told that the passenger was a resident of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh and had come from Bangkok on Thai Airways flight TG-343. During the search of the passenger’s trolley bag, officials recovered 19 vacuum-sealed packets filled with a green dried plant-like substance hidden inside the luggage. Initial field testing identified the substance as marijuana. The total quantity recovered was 20.366 kg, which was seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Price around Rs 20 crore
The passenger was detained and arrested under the NDPS Act, officials said. The case has been handed over to DRI for further investigation into the wider network and possible cross-border links. The value of the seized contraband is around Rs 20 crore.
