After the attack on Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee in West Bengal, opposition parties are fiercely targeting BJP. The entire opposition stands unitedly with former Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee. Meanwhile, Mamata told that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi personally contacted her and expressed concern about Abhishek Banerjee’s health and also assured her of all possible help.
While talking to reporters on Saturday (May 30) night, Mamata Banerjee said that Rahul Gandhi told her that he offered help for Abhishek’s treatment. He told that Rahul said that if needed, Abhishek can be sent to Hyderabad or any other place for better treatment.
‘Rahul Gandhi offered help’
Mamta Banerjee told, ‘Rahul Gandhi called me and said that if anything is needed, I can tell him. He can take Abhishek Banerjee to Hyderabad or somewhere else for treatment. Congress party is ready to provide full help. After this statement, the discussion about unity among the opposition parties has intensified.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had also strongly condemned this incident on social media platforms. He said that an attack on an MP is not just an attack on an individual but also an attack on the people who elected him. Calling it an attack on democracy, Rahul demanded immediate action against the culprits.

Mob attacked Abhishek Banerjee
In fact, on Saturday, Abhishek Banerjee had come to Sonarpur area of South 24 Parganas district to meet the families affected by the post-poll violence. Meanwhile, some people protesting against him threw stones and eggs at him. Videos of this incident have also surfaced, in which security personnel are seen taking Abhishek out of the crowd. His shirt also got torn during the scuffle. He was saved with great difficulty by wearing a cricket helmet.
Mamta Banerjee made serious allegations
After the incident, Mamata Banerjee made serious allegations and said that some powerful people are putting pressure on hospitals and doctors so that Abhishek’s treatment is affected. He claimed that threatening phone calls were allegedly made to the hospital administration. He said that an administrator of the hospital told him that pressure was being exerted by the police. He alleged that doctors are also troubled by this situation, but pressure is being put on them.
Opposition leaders criticized
Meanwhile, the alleged attack on Abhishek Banerjee has been criticized by many opposition leaders including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. Kharge raised questions on the security arrangements, while Akhilesh Yadav termed it a big conspiracy and accused it of promoting violent politics.
TMC’s allegations against BJP
TMC has alleged that people supporting BJP were behind this attack. While meeting the families of party workers allegedly targeted in the post-poll violence, Abhishek Banerjee continued his visit despite ‘brutal attack’ by BJP-backed miscreants, the party claimed.
BJP’s denial
However, BJP leaders denied any involvement in this. West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya condemned the incident, but said the party had no role in it. He indicated that local resentment against TMC could be the reason for this clash. Union Minister Sukant Majumdar also condemned the violence and appealed for peace and urged people not to take law and order into their own hands.
‘The attack was completely pre-planned’
Here, after the incident, Abhishek Banerjee alleged that the attack on him was completely pre-planned. He said that there was not enough police force present at the spot and a conspiracy was hatched to target him. He said, ‘Look what they have done to me. This was pre-planned. There is no police in the area. They want to kill me’.
