July 8, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an important achievement has been achieved in the direction of strengthening water security and promoting cooperative federalism. In the meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and in the presence of Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil, the rehabilitation and resettlement expenditure dispute that has been going on for almost three decades between Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh related to the Sardar Sarovar Project has been unanimously resolved. This decision will significantly reduce the financial burden on Madhya Pradesh.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav informed that as per the opinion given by the Attorney General of India in February 2026, Madhya Pradesh’s share in the rehabilitation expenditure was fixed at 31.98 percent. According to this, Madhya Pradesh would have to pay approximately Rs 1,500 crore to Gujarat. He said that in the meeting held in Delhi between Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh’s share was unanimously reduced to 16.17 percent. As a result, now Madhya Pradesh will have to pay only Rs 231.80 crore.

The share of all four states has been determined

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Gujarat’s share in the meeting has been increased from 50.57 percent to 75 percent. At the same time, Maharashtra’s share has been reduced from 15.15 percent to 7.66 percent and Rajasthan’s share has been reduced from 2.31 percent to 1.17 percent. With this, Gujarat will receive a total of Rs 553.43 crore from the participating states.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the state receives 57 percent of the total electricity produced from Narmada and Sardar Sarovar projects. He said that till now about 3,900 crore units of electricity has been made available to Madhya Pradesh at an average rate of 85 paise per unit. Apart from this, irrigation facility is being provided to about 31 lakh hectares of agricultural land.

Besides, Narmada water is also being supplied to many cities including Jabalpur, Katni, Dewas, Ujjain, Indore, Dhar and industrial areas like Pithampur, Dewas and Vikram Udyogpuri from this project.
