How many Waqf properties were verified in the country? Data of these states came out

The process of digitalizing the records of Waqf properties and giving them legal recognition has accelerated across the country, but in the meantime there are still about 1.2 lakh Waqf properties whose verification has not been completed. At the same time, there are thousands of properties whose records need improvement. In order to provide legal status to the existing Waqf properties before the implementation of the ‘Waqf Amendment Act 2025’, the government had instructed all the Waqf boards to upload the details of their properties on the central portal. Properties whose data is already available on the portal. The last date for rectifying any mistake or deficiency in them has been fixed as June 30. Apart from this, information about the properties has not yet been uploaded on the portal. Time is running out fast for them. At present there is no provision in the law to extend the time limit.

According to the data of Ministry of Minority Affairs. Till now, data of more than 7.95 lakh Waqf properties across the country has been uploaded on the central portal. Of these, about 5.87 lakh properties have been approved. Although. A large number of properties are still in various stages of investigation and verification. According to the ministry, about 1.19 lakh properties are still going through the verification process. These include processes like scrutiny of documents, verification of data and final approval.

More than 88 thousand properties were sent back for improvement

According to the data of the central portal, there are 88,634 properties which have been kept in the category “Rejected by the checker or approver and pending with the maker”. According to the report of Times of India, government officials say that these also include a large number of duplicate entries. Which will be removed. Apart from this, in many cases the records have been sent back for correction due to mistakes in the documents or incomplete information. Here “maker” is the authorized person who has uploaded the documents related to the property on the portal. According to officials, every case is being re-examined so that no genuine claim is rejected by mistake.

Highest number of Waqf properties in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala.

State-wise data shows that in some states the number of Waqf properties is very high and there a large number of cases are still pending verification. So far, data of 1.34 lakh Waqf properties from West Bengal has been uploaded on the portal. Of these, about 1.15 lakh properties have been approved. That means about 19 thousand properties are still in verification or other process. Data of 1.52 lakh properties has been uploaded by Uttar Pradesh Sunni Waqf Board. Of these, about 1.03 lakh properties have been approved. This means that approximately 49 thousand properties are still waiting for approval. Apart from this, information of 80.337 Waqf properties from Kerala has been uploaded on the portal. Of these, 63.103 properties have been approved. While about 17 thousand properties are still in the process.

What is ‘Umeed’ portal?

The central government had launched the central Waqf portal named ‘Umeed’ on 6 June 2025 to prepare and monitor digital records of Waqf properties. Waqf boards across the country upload details of their properties on this portal. After completion of verification, each Waqf property is given a unique ID number. Identification of properties through this. There will be ease in record management and resolution of disputes. The government believes that through this portal the records related to Waqf properties will become more transparent and systematic.

Waqf Property Status

The additional period of six months is also coming to an end

Even six months after the launch of the portal, many Waqf boards were not able to upload complete data of their properties. After this, many boards had asked for additional time from the tribunal. The tribunal had given additional time of six months in many cases. But now this period is also nearing its end. However, officials say that different Waqf boards got relief at different times. Therefore their deadlines may also be different. Some boards are still in the process of completing the records and uploading them on the portal within the time limit set by the tribunal.

Government expedited the process

In a press conference held on June 4, Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju had said that the government is working with state Waqf boards so that the data of the remaining properties can also be uploaded within the stipulated time frame. He said that in many cases the process has been delayed due to non-availability of necessary documents. But the government and the state Waqf board are together trying to complete this work.

June 30 is the last date for correcting records

The government has given time till June 30 to make corrections and correct errors in the already uploaded records. After this it may be difficult to make changes in the records. In such a situation, the data of Waqf properties has not been uploaded yet or there is some kind of mistake in the documents. This time is considered very important for them.
