Prime Minister Narendra Modi left on Saturday for a three-day visit to Seychelles from June 27 to 29. The PM is going there on the invitation of Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie. He will be the chief guest at the celebrations of 50 years of independence of Seychelles. In a statement issued before his visit, PM Modi said that this visit will provide an opportunity to further strengthen the long-standing friendship and partnership between the two countries. He said that both the countries will work together for the progress of their people and security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.

PM Modi will be there from June 27 to 29 at the invitation of Seychelles President Patrick Herminy. During this time, he will participate as the chief guest in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the country’s National Day. The PM said that he is excited about bilateral talks with President Harmini.

The Prime Minister said, “Following President Harmini’s successful state visit to India in February 2026, I look forward to our discussions aimed at further strengthening our enduring friendship. Together we will advance the progress of our peoples and promote security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.

50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries completed

PM Modi described Seychelles as an important maritime neighbour. He said that Seychelles is an important partner in India’s vision of the Ocean and our shared commitment towards the Global South. This year, 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries are also being completed.

This year we also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relations, which are based on mutual trust, shared democratic values, respect for diversity and deep affinity between our peoples.

Will address the National Assembly of Seychelles

He told that during the visit he will have the honor of addressing the National Assembly of Seychelles. He will be the first Indian Prime Minister to do so. He said that this historic occasion reflects the strong democratic values ​​and parliamentary traditions that bind the two countries.

The Prime Minister said that he is also looking forward to meeting the Indian community settled in Seychelles, who have maintained the special friendship between India and Seychelles for generations and act as a living bridge between the two countries. He said, ‘I am confident that my visit will further strengthen the long-standing relations between the two countries, enhance maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean region and advance our shared vision of a secure, peaceful and prosperous Indian Ocean region.’

Naval ships will also take part in the ceremony

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, a contingent of the Indian Armed Forces and two ships of the Indian Navy will also participate in the National Day celebrations of Seychelles. This reflects the close defense and maritime partnership between the two countries.

Traveled to Seychelles in 2015

During the visit, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with President Harmini. In this, all aspects of India-Seychelles cooperation will be reviewed. Also, views will be exchanged on regional and international issues of mutual interest. Important issues like defense cooperation, maritime security, blue economy, digital governance, capacity building and regional security will be discussed between the two leaders. This is Modi’s second visit to Seychelles in the last 11 years. Earlier, he had visited this island country in the year 2015.

Seychelles is the smallest sovereign country in Africa in terms of population and area. Its population is 1.35 lakh. Of these, around 12 thousand are people of Indian origin. This is about 8 to 9% share. Its area is about 459 square kilometers. Seychelles is a small island country situated in the Indian Ocean. There are 115 small and big islands in it, but people live on only 33 of these islands. This least populated island country of the African continent is world famous for its magnificent beaches and tourism. The most beautiful beach of Seychelles is ‘Anse Source d’Argent’ located on the island of La Digue. Famous throughout the world for its bright white sand, crystal clear water and huge granite rocks, this beach is considered to be the most famous beach of Seychelles.
