How far away from your house is the new Kendriya Vidyalaya going to be built in Bihar? See the complete list

July 2, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) has always been the first choice for lakhs of students of Bihar. Low fees, better education, experienced teachers and uniform curriculum across the country are the reasons why thousands of families want to enroll their children in Kendriya Vidyalaya every year. But, till now, due to lack of Kendriya Vidyalaya in many districts of Bihar, children had to go to other districts or were deprived of this facility. Now this situation is about to change. The Central Government has given approval to open new Kendriya Vidyalayas in 18 districts of Bihar. However, getting approval does not mean that studies will start in all schools in the next few months.

The real question is when will studies start in these 18 Kendriya Vidyalayas? Will all schools open together? In which districts land has been acquired and in which places the process is still pending? Which phase takes the most time in building a school? And if land is not yet available in a district, how many years may the children there have to wait? Actually, the entire process of opening a Kendriya Vidyalaya is completed in several stages. From getting the land to building the building, appointing staff and finally starting the admission, every step takes time. Let us understand in simple language what is the complete roadmap of 18 new Kendriya Vidyalayas of Bihar and when can we expect studies to start in them.

First understand the whole matter

The Central Government has approved the opening of new Kendriya Vidyalayas in 18 districts of Bihar. There are many such districts among these, where till now there was not even a single Kendriya Vidyalaya. With this, thousands of students will be able to get the facility of Kendriya Vidyalaya in their own district. But even after getting approval, schools do not start immediately. For this, the state government, district administration, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan) and the central government all have a role to play.

What is the status of 18 Kendriya Vidyalayas?

According to the latest government information-

  1. Land has been made available for 12 Kendriya Vidyalayas.
  2. The process of land transfer is going on in 5 districts.
  3. The land acquisition process in 1 district is still in the initial stage.

How many KVS are there in Bihar now?

At present, a total of 1,289 schools of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) are operating across the country. These include 51 Kendriya Vidyalayas in Bihar, 46 in Tamil Nadu, 41 in Jharkhand and 79 in Rajasthan. During the last 10 years (2015-16 to 2024-25) and the current financial year (2025-26), 192 new Kendriya Vidyalayas have been opened in the country. Of these, 5 new Kendriya Vidyalayas have been started in Bihar, 9 in Jharkhand and 5 in Tamil Nadu.

Approval to give government land

The Cabinet of Bihar Government has approved to provide 5-5 acres of government land for each school to open five new Kendriya Vidyalayas in the state. After this, the process of opening Kendriya Vidyalayas in these districts has progressed. The government says that with the opening of these schools, students will get better education, modern facilities and a good study environment. The spirit of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 can be implemented.

5-5 acres of land for these new Kendriya Vidyalayas-

  • Purnia East (Madhubani, Purnia)
  • Rajgir (Pilkhi, Nalanda)
  • Sheikhpura (Neemi, Sheikhpura)
  • Madhepura (Sahugarh, Madhepura)
  • Madhubani (Satiharpur, Rajnagar)

Status of remaining Kendriya Vidyalayas-

  • Nawada: 5 acres of agricultural farm land located near Shobhnath Temple has been transferred to Kendriya Vidyalaya.
  • Shekhopursarai: Land has been made available for Kendriya Vidyalaya in Neemi Mauza.
  • Hajipur: Land has been given to the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) on Patna-Hajipur National Highway.
  • Muzaffarpur: Land has been made available for Kendriya Vidyalaya in Musahari area.
  • Aurangabad: Land has been given for Kendriya Vidyalaya in Ramdiha Mauza on the banks of Adri river in the urban area.
  • Aurangabad (Dev): Land has also been made available for a Kendriya Vidyalaya near the Devkunth Math complex.
  • Buxar: Land has been given for the Kendriya Vidyalaya near Mauza Buxar Fort (Station No. 332) of Buxar region.

Do not delay in starting studies

The government wants that in the districts where new Kendriya Vidyalayas are to be opened, land, NOC (No Objection Certificate) and other important government works should be completed soon, so that there is no delay in building schools and starting studies. Officials have been instructed that where the land has been decided, it should soon be handed over to Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS). In the districts where land or other approvals are still pending, the concerned departments should work together and complete the process soon.

Students will benefit a lot

The government says that all the departments will work in coordination with each other, so that new Kendriya Vidyalayas can be started soon. With the opening of these schools, students will get better education, modern facilities and a good study environment in their own district. This will also reduce the need for them to go to other cities for studies. Most people think that a school will be built as soon as the land is acquired, but the actual process starts after this, but it is not so, there is a lot of process involved beyond this.

What will be the new facilities?

According to the new guidelines, infrastructure with modern facilities will be created in these Kendriya Vidyalayas. Smart classrooms, science and computer labs, libraries, sports facilities and resources related to digital education will be provided in schools. Apart from this, a safe and better learning environment will be created for the students, so that they can get quality education with modern technology.
