Hormuz route completely opened, know how many ships passed on the first day

June 19, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The Strait of Hormuz has been opened after the signing of a temporary agreement between Iran and America. First the American army ended its blockade from the Gulf of Oman. after this iran Gave the green signal to ships to pass through Hormuz. However, despite the lifting of the blockade, the movement of ships through this route of Hormuz is very slow. In view of security, ship owners do not want to take any risk.

According to Kpler, after the opening of Hormuz, there is news of 25 ships or oil tankers passing through Hormuz in the last 24 hours. Of these, 3 tankers were from Saudi Arabia.

Before the war 130 ships passed every day

According to Bloomberg, before the war, 100-130 ships used to pass through the Strait of Hormuz every day. The movement of ships stopped during the war. Some oil tankers definitely passed through this route surreptitiously. It has been said in the report that even after the opening of Hormuz, the traffic on this route has not become normal due to two reasons.

1. Sea mines- Dozens of mines still exist beneath the Strait of Hormuz. The Pentagon believes that there is one kilogram of gunpowder spread on every meter. Only Iran knows how and where these ammunition have been laid. It has not been completely removed yet. That’s why ship owners are not taking risks.

2. Toll issue- The situation regarding toll in Hormuz is not clear. When US Vice President and head of the negotiating team JD Vance was asked questions about this, he did not say anything clearly. On the other hand, Iran is talking about taking toll. The ship’s owners are waiting for the situation to become clear.

Why is the Strait of Hormuz important for the world?

The Strait of Hormuz is located between Oman and the Persian Gulf. It is considered the gateway to the Persian Gulf. This 34 kilometer wide strait is very important for the supply of oil and gas in the world. About 20 percent of the world’s total crude oil is supplied through this route.

Countries like Iraq, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait and Qatar export their oil and gas through this route. At the same time, big countries like India and China import oil and gas through this route.
