After the signing of the agreement with Iran, the process of reopening the Strait of Hormuz has started. First of all, the American blockade imposed outside Hormuz will be removed. After this, Iran will clear the landmines laid under the sea. In such a situation the question arises that Hormuz When will the supply of oil and gas to India be restored to normal?
India receives about 46 percent of its total crude oil imports through the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, a large part of the LNG (natural gas) imported for India comes from Qatar, and Qatar also supplies gas through Hormuz.
By when will the supply increase, 3 reports
1. According to Bloomberg, Qatar has started the process of exporting gas from Ras Laffan. For this, oil tankers from the Persian Gulf have been called near Ras Laffan. Qatar’s effort is to normalize the gas supply process within 60 days. That means, after 60 days, Qatar can start supplying gas in the pre-war situation.
2. The Pentagon recently gave a report to the White House. It was said that one kilogram of gunpowder was spread every meter below Hormuz. It may take 6 months to clean it. This means that it will take 180 days for the Strait of Hormuz to be completely cleared.
3. Experts say that it will take at least 30 days for the Strait of Hormuz to be cleared. It all will depend on Iran. Small oil tankers are still leaving. India has a Disha tanker with Oman, which is preparing to leave Hormuz. That means the process of gas and oil supply has started through Hormuz.
Iran is preparing to sell its own oil
After signing the deal with America, America has lifted the sanctions imposed on Iran. This means that now Iran can sell oil openly. Iran currently has reserves of about 100 crore barrels of oil, which it can release to sell in the market. Till now, due to American sanctions, India was not able to buy oil directly from Iran.
After the lifting of the ban, the way has opened for India to buy oil from Iran. Iran can also increase supply rapidly through old oil tankers. This means that it will not be necessary for India to wait for the complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz to get oil. However, it all will ultimately depend on the implementation of the deal and the terms attached to it.
