Negotiations regarding a major agreement between America and Iran have now reached the final stage. According to American officials, if this deal is completed, the ceasefire will be extended for 60 days, the Strait of Hormuz will be fully reopened and Iran may be allowed to sell oil without any hindrance. Along with this, new talks will also begin regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
According to American media Axios, both countries can sign an MOU i.e. memorandum of understanding. This agreement will remain in force for the first 60 days and if both parties wish, they can extend it further. Under the deal, Iran will remove mines planted in the Strait of Hormuz so that the movement of ships can become normal. In return, America will reduce the blockade on Iran’s ports and give relief in some sanctions. With this, Iran will be able to sell oil openly again.
What indications were found on the nuclear program?
A final agreement has not yet been reached between the two countries on the nuclear issue. In the draft agreement, Iran has promised that it will not make nuclear weapons. There will also be talks on limiting the uranium enrichment program and removing the stockpile of highly enriched uranium. According to the New York Times report, Iran has agreed to remove its reserves of highly enriched uranium under the proposed agreement. Iran has 440 kg of enriched uranium. However, Iran has refused to hand over uranium to America.
Iran’s conditions for fulfilling promises
According to sources, Iran has indicated some concessions to America through intermediary countries. At the same time, America says that major decisions like permanent lifting of sanctions and unfreezing of Iranian funds will be taken only when Iran fully implements its promises. During this 60-day period, the US forces deployed in recent months will remain in the area. Only if a final agreement is reached will a decision be taken on the withdrawal of troops.
Talk of ending the war between Israel and Hezbollah
This draft deal also includes ending the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed concern over this. However, US officials say that if Hezbollah attacks again or accumulates weapons, Israel will be able to take action.
How did the two countries reach the agreement?
US President Donald Trump discussed this agreement in a conference call with leaders of several Arab and Muslim countries on Saturday. According to sources, all the leaders supported this deal. UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed was also involved in this call. Apart from this, leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey and Pakistan also participated. All these countries are mediating the talks between America and Iran.
Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir recently visited Tehran and tried to take the talks forward. Apart from this, countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Egypt and Turkey have also helped in mediation. The White House hopes that the remaining issues will be resolved soon. It is being said that this agreement can be announced by Sunday.
