
The first batch of women cadets who took training at the National Defense Academy (NDA) have joined the Defense Forces as officers. This is an important milestone in the journey of women’s participation in military service. This batch of 17 women cadets joined NDA under the 148th course in August 2022 and successfully completed the rigorous pre-commission training at their respective service academies.
In the Indian Army, nine officers were commissioned during the passing out parade of the 158th Regular Course held at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun on 13 June 2026. This parade was inspected by President Draupadi Murmu.
5 officers commissioned in Indian Air Force
Five officers were commissioned into the Indian Air Force during the combined graduation parade of the 217th course at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal, Hyderabad on Saturday. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh inspected this parade.
Three officers were commissioned into the Indian Navy during the Spring Term 2026 passing out parade at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala on 28 May. Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Sameer Saxena inspected the parade.
An important chapter of change in defense forces
With the commissioning, these officers have joined the group of military leaders charged with the responsibility of serving the nation. This commissioning marks an important chapter in the transformation of the Defense Forces and reflects the country’s commitment to equal opportunity, merit and excellence in the military services. This achievement is a testament to their dedication, discipline and perseverance, and will inspire young women across the country to pursue careers in uniform and contribute to nation-building.
