
The high level committee formed on population change met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday. The committee told the Home Minister that it will visit different states and union territories to get first-hand information at the ground level. The high level committee will also talk to various ministries of the central government. So that feedback can be taken on issues related to population change.
The High Level Committee also informed that in order to make the visits to the States/Union Territories more meaningful and interactive, a detailed questionnaire has also been prepared to obtain necessary information from them in advance. Appreciating the strategy made by the High Level Committee, the Union Home Minister has directed the Home Secretary to provide all possible assistance to the committee.
Suggestion to give your recommendations as soon as possible
Home Minister Amit Shah has suggested the high level committee to give its recommendations as soon as possible. Let us tell you that the Government of India has constituted a high level committee to study the demographic changes occurring due to illegal immigration and other unusual reasons and suggest measures to deal with them. It is being headed by Justice Prakash Prabhakar Navalekar (retired).
‘High-Powered Demography Mission’ was announced last year
Let us tell you that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced ‘High-Powered Demography Mission’ on 15 August 2025. Under this, the government has constituted a committee to study the changes taking place in the population due to illegal immigration and other unusual reasons and to suggest measures to deal with the changes. The committee also includes Census Commissioner Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan and Durga Shankar Mishra (retired IAS), Balaji Srivastava (retired IPS) and Shamika Ravi (member of PMEAC).
This high-level committee will scientifically assess the changes in population in different parts of the country due to illegal immigration and other unusual reasons. After this, their reasons will be analyzed. It will then recommend appropriate policy, legislative and administrative measures.
