In the pursuit of becoming America’s special agent, Pakistan has now fallen into such a trouble that it is not going to be easy for its Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to get out of it. Especially when the crisis facing Pakistan regarding Abraham Accord has been created by US President Donald Trump himself. The Pakistan administration is under pressure from Islamabad to Washington DC on this proposal of Trump.
There is war-like tension in the Gulf between America and Iran. Pakistan is trying its best to reach an agreement between the two. On this pretext, Pakistan is trying to hit two targets simultaneously. The first target is to make the American President happy once again by whatever means. In return, you can arrange more loans for yourself. The poor country was able to survive at the mercy of Americans. The second goal is to remove the stain of the image of a terrorist country and establish itself as a global peace ambassador.
But meanwhile, the US President has played such a ‘trump card’ in which Pakistan is badly trapped and diplomatically it can be ruined. The name of this trump card is- Abraham Accord. In which there is huge pressure from Trump on Saudi Arabia and Pakistan to join. Even though both Saudi and Pakistan have said that they will not participate in this, but Pakistan is currently under more pressure from Trump than Saudi. Direct questions are being asked from the government of Pakistan from Islamabad to America.
Will Pakistan recognize Israel?
This strange situation arose in front of Pakistan’s Deputy PM Ishaq Dar when he met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington DC. Had bilateral talks with him. Came out of the meeting room and met the media. There he could not give any answer to this piercing question. But later when he met Pakistani media, he tried to present the country’s side.
Dar said that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the basis of pre-1967 borders and without making Al-Quds Al-Sharif its capital has been the state policy of Pakistan. This is what our government has been thinking from the beginning to the present and year after year. There is no change in that.
Abraham Accord is actually like a double-edged sword for Pakistan, joining which would mean political suicide for Munir and Shahbaz. Because by doing this, Pakistan will have to kill its Islamic ideology on the issue of Palestine. Retreating from the hard line would mean denying the existence of the country of Palestine. Israel, which Pakistan has considered responsible for the deaths of many people from Gaza to Lebanon and Iran, will have to be recognized as a country.
Pakistan will have to face huge opposition at home also. The anger of fundamentalist organizations of Pakistan may go down on Munir’s army and Shahbaz’s government. But if Pakistan keeps distance from Abraham Accord, then it will have to face the wrath of Trump. After which the financial assistance provided by America may stop. Pakistan’s flour may become wet in poverty.
It will become difficult for terrorists like Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar to roam freely in Pakistan. Every kind of hunter can work at the terror shop.
Trump had also said two days ago that countries like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Qatar are indebted to America for fulfilling this important responsibility. He said that we have countries which are talking about Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar and other countries should immediately join this agreement. Witkoff, Jared and others are working on it. This will be historic. I feel that those countries are indebted to us for fulfilling this responsibility.
The dilemma facing Pakistan is whether it should repay Trump’s debt or become enmity with America. Three days ago, Trump’s close senator Lindsey Graham had already indicated this to Pakistan. He had described Pakistan’s role as mediator as problematic. His reaction was to Khawaja Asif’s statement in which he had said that Pakistan will not compromise on its ideology regarding the Abraham Accords.
Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that personally I do not believe that we should be a part of any agreement which conflicts with our core ideology, and secondly, it is written on our passport that it is not valid to travel to Israel.
Here it should also be known what is the Abraham Accord which has increased the concern of Pakistan. Actually, in his first term in the year 2020, Trump had put this proposal before the world. The main objective of this agreement was to normalize the relations of the Gulf countries with Israel. First UAE and Bahrain joined, then Morocco and Sudan also agreed. Then these countries started diplomatic relations with Israel.
But Trump now wants expansion by including Saudi and Pakistan, so that America’s military expenditure in the Gulf is reduced and the possibility of conflict is eliminated. If seen, Israel will benefit from the extension of this agreement in that it will get acceptance in the Arab World, but the question again lies with Pakistan, which is stuck on this issue from all sides.
