The scorching heat this week in America is going to increase people’s problems. The Meteorological Department has warned that there will be no respite from intense heat, humidity and even at night for many days in large parts of the country. This heatwave is coming at a time when 4th July (Independence Day) is celebrated in America and millions of people come out of their homes to celebrate the holidays.
According to America’s National Weather Service (NWS), as of Tuesday, about 12 crore people are under extreme heat warning. This heatwave will affect a large area spanning from the East Coast to the central parts of America. Meteorologists say that the reason for this heat is the heat dome. In this, hot air gets trapped over an area and the temperature keeps increasing continuously.
Temperature can reach 40.6 degrees Celsius
Till Thursday, the maximum impact will be in the Midwest and Mississippi Valley. After this, this heat will move towards the Ohio Valley and the East Coast and may last through the holiday weekend. The temperature in the affected areas can reach 35 to 40.6 degrees Celsius. Due to humidity, people will feel heat like 38 to 46 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of breaking old temperature records in many cities on Thursday and Friday. The highest temperature ever recorded may also be recorded at some places.
Heat emergency declared in New York
The administration has advised people to avoid going out in the afternoon, drink more water and use air conditioners or cooling centers. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has imposed a heat emergency. Under this, hundreds of cooling centers will be opened in the city from Wednesday. In Detroit too, 12 entertainment centers with air conditioning have been opened for the people.
FIFA World Cup will also be affected
This extreme heat can also affect the FIFA World Cup matches. Players’ organization FIFPro says that during some matches the heat can be so high that it will not be safe for the players to play. The hottest heat is likely to be in Texas, where spectators coming to watch the matches in Houston and Arlington may be affected. The heat may also affect the England-DR Congo match to be held in Atlanta. At the same time, Philadelphia has decided to shift some parts of the FIFA Fan Festival to cold tents.
Along with America, Canada is also in the grip of heat. The temperature in Ontario can reach 37 degrees Celsius this week. The temperature is expected to be around 35 degrees Celsius during the World Cup match in Toronto on Thursday. Orange heat warning has been issued in Ontario, while yellow heat warning is in effect in many areas including Montreal.
