
The scorching heat continues in all the states across the country, the fire spewing from the sky has made life difficult for the people. Due to the scorching sun it has become difficult for people to come out of their homes. In Telangana too, the situation is very bad due to record breaking heat. Due to the severe heatwave and continuously rising temperatures, at least 16 people have died due to suspected heat stroke in seven districts of the state. On the other hand, 319 cases of heat stroke have been reported in the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh, although no death has been confirmed there yet.
In a review meeting chaired by state Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, officials informed him about the deaths in seven districts. An official statement issued from the minister’s office said that the maximum number of four deaths have been recorded in Jaishankar Bhupalpally district. Apart from this, three people each have died in Warangal Urban, Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts. One death each has been reported in Jogulamba Gadwal, Rangareddy and Suryapet districts. However, an official, on the condition of anonymity, said that so far unofficial information about the deaths of about 34 people has been received from different districts, but the district administration has not yet confirmed that all the deaths were due to heat stroke.
Government announced compensation of Rs 4 lakh
The state government has announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased. The Revenue Minister directed the officials that there should not be any delay in the compensation process and assistance should be provided to the affected families immediately.
Minister Reddy gave instructions to the officials
Minister Reddy said that due to the effect of El Nino, the temperature in the state has reached dangerous levels, making the heatwave situation more serious. He warned the officials that any kind of negligence regarding the safety and health of the people will not be tolerated. He directed officials to identify villages with extreme temperatures and issue warnings about heat in those villages through media, social media and other means.
Appeal to people not to leave their homes
Along with this, he said that drinking water and ORS packets should be made available at bus stations, markets, major roads and places where a large number of workers work. He urged senior citizens, pregnant women, children and unwell people not to leave their homes between 11 am and 4 pm.
Temperature crossed 45 degrees in many districts
According to the weather bulletin of Telangana State Development Planning Society, till 5 pm on Saturday, temperatures were recorded above 45 degrees Celsius in 19 districts of the state. In which the highest temperature of 46.3 degrees Celsius was recorded in Dummugudem of Bhadradri Kothagudem district and Dharmapuri of Jagatyal district.
