‘Seats increased in medical colleges’
The Prime Minister said, “Due to efforts like Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana, medicines have become cheaper. The prices of stents and knee implants have come down and many people have benefited from this.” PM Modi also said that due to the expansion of medical institutions across the country and increase in the number of medical seats, medical education has become accessible to more people.
He said, “We will take the progress made so far forward to create a healthy India.” Under the ‘Ayushman Bharat’ scheme, launched in 2018, eligible beneficiaries receive health insurance cover of up to Rs 5 lakh per family annually for secondary and tertiary healthcare services. The Prime Minister also mentioned supporting initiatives like Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Jan Aushadhi Kendras and digital health services, which together have strengthened the healthcare system. According to PM Modi, Ayushman cards and Jan Aushadhi centers have helped poor and middle class families save approximately Rs 2.25 lakh crore in treatment expenses.
