Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday talked about the work done by the government for the growth of India’s healthcare sector in the last 12 years. PM Modi said that continuous efforts have been made to make good quality healthcare facilities affordable and easily available to all citizens. He shared a post on social media X with the hashtag #12YearsOfSwasthBharat. The PM said that India has taken major steps to increase healthcare coverage across the country, make treatment affordable and strengthen the medical infrastructure.

PM Modi said, “Over the last 12 years, India has worked to make good quality healthcare facilities more affordable and easily available. We are proud to be recognized as the country with the world’s largest healthcare program ‘Ayushman Bharat’, which provides excellent healthcare facilities to the people most in need.

Over the last 12 years, India has worked to make quality healthcare more affordable and accessible.

We feel proud when we are known as the nation with the world’s largest healthcare programme, Ayushman Bharat, which provides top-quality healthcare to the most vulnerable.

‘Seats increased in medical colleges’

The Prime Minister said, “Due to efforts like Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana, medicines have become cheaper. The prices of stents and knee implants have come down and many people have benefited from this.” PM Modi also said that due to the expansion of medical institutions across the country and increase in the number of medical seats, medical education has become accessible to more people.

He said, “We will take the progress made so far forward to create a healthy India.” Under the ‘Ayushman Bharat’ scheme, launched in 2018, eligible beneficiaries receive health insurance cover of up to Rs 5 lakh per family annually for secondary and tertiary healthcare services. Earlier, while addressing a public meeting in Daman, PM Modi said that the scheme has transformed access to healthcare facilities for millions of Indians and provided health security to a large section of the population.

Guarantee of free treatment of Rs 5 lakh for weaker sections

PM Modi described Ayushman Bharat as one of the important healthcare initiatives of the country and said that India is proud to run the world’s largest healthcare program for the weaker sections of the society. He had said that the first measure of development in the BJP government and our NDA government is to bring change in the lives of the poor, the underprivileged, the tribal communities and the middle class. Explaining the benefits of this program, PM Modi said that now every eligible citizen has the facility of Ayushman Card, which guarantees free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh.

The Prime Minister also mentioned supporting initiatives like Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, Jan Aushadhi Kendras and digital health services, which together have strengthened the healthcare system. According to PM Modi, Ayushman cards and Jan Aushadhi centers have helped poor and middle class families save approximately Rs 2.25 lakh crore in treatment expenses.
