US President Donald Trump sharply criticized outgoing British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. After the announcement of the resignation of Labor Party leader Starmer, Trump said that he has caused great harm to himself in handling energy, immigration and relations with Washington.
While talking to reporters in the Oval Office on Monday (June 22), Trump said, ‘I think he is a good person’. But Trump also accused Starmer of mishandling Britain’s energy policy by failing to exploit North Sea oil and allowing windmills to be installed everywhere. He said that Starmer spoiled Britain’s energy policy.

Large resources of oil and gas exist in the North Sea.
Trump said, ‘Where does Britain buy most of its energy? From Norway and where does Norway get its oil? From the North Sea. Britain has a very good part of the North Sea, but in the name of environment they do not want to use it. He said that there are huge resources of oil and gas in the North Sea, but the government is not using them.
Trump had predicted resignation
Trump had already predicted Keir Starmer’s resignation on Truth Social. He said that Starmer is my friend in a way but did not support America enough in NATO and Iran war.
differences between the two leaders
Differences had arisen between the two leaders over the use of British military bases in Cyprus to attack Iran.
Trump had expressed disappointment that Britain took too long to approve the US demand to use the RAF Akrotiri base in Cyprus to bomb Iranian targets. Trump said, ‘He said that we cannot allow landing on the island. This happened for the first time. He said Starmer eventually agreed but it was a bad move that hurt him greatly.
‘Three big problems before them’
However, after criticism, Trump also expressed good wishes for Starmer. He said, ‘I wish him all the best, but he had three big problems – energy, immigration and crime.’ This comment of Trump has come at a time when there is intense discussion about the leadership crisis in British politics. Starmer’s government has recently faced criticism on issues such as economic pressure, migration policy and law and order.
Starmer resigned
Starmer announced his resignation as Labor leader on Monday, but will remain Prime Minister until a smooth transfer of power. He took this step under pressure from party MPs after poor local election results. Andy Burnham, a veteran Labor Party leader and former mayor of Greater Manchester, is likely to become PM after returning to Parliament. If this happens, he will become the seventh Prime Minister of Britain in a decade.
