The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to hear the bail plea of a man accused of murdering a woman and her father in an alleged case of unrequited love. During the hearing, the bench compared this murder to a film of Ajay Devgan. The bench led by Justice Vikram Nath also included newly appointed Supreme Court Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice VS Mohana.
The bench headed by Justice Vikram Nath was hearing Sagar’s petition. Sagar is the main accused in a firing incident that took place about 6 years ago in 2020 in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. In this incident, just days before the wedding, the bride-to-be and her father were murdered.
You are the murderer of your own girlfriend: SC
During the hearing, Justice Vikram Nath commented, “Oh my God! You killed your girlfriend. You killed your father-in-law, brother-in-law, everyone. You are very fearless. Haven’t you seen that movie, Bihar Wali, in which Ajay Devgan is in?” He further said, “You are the murderer of your own girlfriend. This is just like a movie.”
It is believed that Justice Nath was referring to the 2006 thriller film ‘Omkara’. In the film, Ajay Devgan’s character ‘Omi’ murders his wife ‘Dolly’ (played by Kareena Kapoor Khan) because he suspects that Dolly is having an affair with his best friend. This film was based on William Shakespeare’s play ‘Othello’.
SC refuses to hear the petition
These comments from the country’s largest court came to light when the Supreme Court was hearing a petition challenging the decision of not granting bail by the Allahabad High Court. However, after indicating that it was not in favor of giving any relief to the accused, the Supreme Court refused to hear this petition.
After this, the lawyer appearing in the court on behalf of the accused sought permission to withdraw the petition, so that they can again approach the High Court at the appropriate stage. He got permission for this from the Supreme Court.
Committed murder with friends in 2020
This case is related to an FIR lodged by the brother of the woman who was killed in Meerut in June 2020. According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly had one-sided love for the woman and was constantly stalking her.
The investigators also termed it a case of “one-sided love”. According to the police, 2 days before the woman’s scheduled marriage with another man, Sagar and several of his associates reached her house and opened fire on the family members.
