Has TMC broken into three pieces? Rebel MPs merge with NCPI, know what is the plan of rebel MLAs

June 15, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Trinamool Congress has divided not into two pieces, but into three pieces! On Sunday, 20 rebel Trinamool MPs merged with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI). These 20 MPs will sit separately from the MPs of Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress. MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, who is leading the rebel MPs, has announced her support to the NDA government at the Centre. But where will the angry MLAs led by Ritabrata Banerjee go in the state? Will the angry MLAs also merge with NCPI? Or will they adopt a different path, speculation is ongoing.

on sunday Trinamool Congress Sudip Banerjee, the probable leader of the rebel MPs, had said that even if a separate party is formed, the disgruntled MPs will not back down from the demands of the real Trinamool Congress. To avoid anti-defection law, he has decided to merge with NCP.

Now the real fight for Trinamool will come next.

The monsoon session of Parliament is going to start soon. The rebel MPs of TMC have written a letter to the Speaker demanding to sit separately in the Lok Sabha and after the session starts, the rebel MPs will declare themselves as the real Trinamool Congress and formally stake claim on TMC. After this this matter will go to court.

The monsoon session of Parliament will start from July 21. At that time, when the Trinamool members, i.e. eight members of Mamata Banerjee’s camp, come and sit in the Lok Sabha, they will get a chance to tell the Speaker that the Kakoli-Sudeep camp is sitting in a separate block with two-thirds of the party members. After this the whole matter will go to court.

Know what is the plan of rebel TMC MLAs

But unlike the rebel MPs, the rebel MLAs will not follow the same path, both will adopt different paths. While the rebel MPs will support the NDA, the rebel MLA will play the role of opposition in the Assembly. The leader of these MLAs is Ritabrata Banerjee and the Assembly Speaker has recognized him as the Leader of Opposition.

Out of 80 Trinamool Congress MLAs, 60 MLAs are supporters of Ritabrata. Ritabrata claims that they are the main opposition party. Their aim is to become a constructive opposition, that is, they will not work in support of the BJP government in the state, but will work as a separate Trinamool.

And this is where NCP aims to support BJP in Parliament. According to him, he wants to work for the development of Bengal. For this they will support NDA.

According to sources, a WhatsApp group of 20 disgruntled Trinamool MPs has been formed for this purpose. This group has been named ‘Development of Bengal’. It is reported that this new party will maintain constant contact and necessary cooperation with the Chief Minister of West Bengal and the BJP government.
