Ever since IMF came forward to improve the economy of Pakistan and not only gave recommendations to implement new reforms but also got them implemented. Since then, the situation has improved a bit in terms of growth numbers in the neighbourhood. Now such a report has come out, which everyone is surprised to see. Pakistan is earning from a place which has become the lifeline of Pakistan’s economy. That is the money sent by Pakistanis living abroad i.e. remittance. Which is more than the total exports from Pakistan at present. Let us also tell you how much money Pakistan has received in the form of total remittances in the financial year 2026.
Record made of remittance
According to the Central Bank of Pakistan, in the last financial year (FY26), which ended on June 30, the country received a record US $ 41.6 billion in remittances from people working abroad. This amount is more than the total exports during this period. State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said on social media that workers’ remittances in fiscal year 2026 stood at US $ 41.6 billion, which is 8.6 percent more than the amount of US $ 38.3 billion received in fiscal year 2025. Khurram Shahzad, advisor to the Finance Minister, said this figure is the “highest ever annual remittance” in the history of Pakistan. He said on
From which countries came the maximum remittances?
The adviser described the influx as a record achievement and called the increase over the past three years “extraordinary”, made possible by “millions of hardworking Pakistanis around the world”. The data showed that the largest sources of remittances in June were Saudi Arabia (US$829.6 million) and the United Arab Emirates (US$792.3 million), followed by the United Kingdom (US$514.9 million) and the United States (US$296.8 million). Other countries with inflows of more than US$100 million included Italy (US$121.1 million) and Oman (US$110.8 million). Although remittances grew by 8.6 percent, the year-on-year increase was lower than the 26.6 percent growth recorded in FY25 and the 10.7 percent growth recorded in FY24.
Remittances more than total exports
The special thing is that the amount received from remittance is much more than the total exports of the country. If we look at the figures, the amount of remittance is more than the net export earnings (which was US$ 30.1 billion). At the same time, the country suffered a trade deficit of about 40 billion US dollars, which was compensated by the remittances of workers. In the last few years, this remittance has become the biggest source of foreign exchange earnings or rather the lifeline of the country’s economy.
