
CBI has taken major action and arrested two bank officials in the case of fund embezzlement of Rs 504 crore by Haryana government departments. The arrested accused include Shamin Dar, the then area head of IDFC First Bank and Charanjit Singh Randhawa, the then manager of AU Small Finance Bank, Mohali branch.
According to CBI, both the officers are accused of wrongly diverting excess funds of government departments into fixed deposits and helping in transferring money through fake bank accounts. Investigation revealed that around Rs 504 crore belonging to 8 departments of Haryana Government was withdrawn from Sector-32 Chandigarh branch of IDFC First Bank through fake FDs, debit notes and shell companies.
Chargesheet filed against 17 accused
This case was initially being investigated by Haryana Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, which was later handed over to CBI on the request of the state government. CBI has so far filed a charge sheet against 17 accused in this case, which include bank officials, government employees, companies and private people.
Accused will be presented in CBI court
CBI said that both the arrested accused will be presented in the special CBI court of Panchkula. The agency says that action is underway to reach out to all the people involved in misappropriation of government money and trace the entire amount.
CBI is also investigating these scams
Apart from this, the CBI is also investigating the Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) and CREST scams in the Union Territory of Chandigarh, in which several other bankers and government officials have already been chargesheeted. CBI is now strictly investigating where this huge amount of public money has been hidden.
There are allegations against them
In the CSCL case, 5 bankers, 1 CSCL official and 1 private individual have been accused, while in the CREST case, 5 bankers, 2 CREST officials, 4 private individuals and 2 companies have been accused. The CBI has said that it is committed to bringing all the culprits to justice and fully tracing the embezzled public funds.
