Aam Aadmi Party’s national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda termed the midnight lathi charge and use of tear gas on villagers demanding water in Chanaut village of Hansi as extremely shameful and an attack on democracy. He said that Haryana’s BJP government and Chief Minister Naib Singh are not able to fulfill even the basic needs like water. When the people are demanding their rightful water, the government is lashing out instead of solving the problem.
Anurag Dhanda said that it is beyond comprehension that Chief Minister Naib Singh I am not able to handle even such a small matter. The villagers have been asking for water for 38 days, no one is making any illegal demand. People in the entire state are worried about every drop of water, in many areas taps have been dry for 10-15 days, farmers are facing the irrigation crisis, but instead of finding a solution, the government is busy scaring and suppressing the public.
Police, administration, JCB at midnight
He said that the biggest question is why was there a need to go to Chanaut village with police, administration, JCB and heavy force at 1.30 in the night? If the government had a solution then why were talks not held during the day? Taking action against women, elderly people and farmers in the dark of night proves that the government is afraid not of its people but of exposing its own failure.
Anurag Dhanda said that it is an old habit of the BJP government that whenever people talk about their rights, police is sent in response. The same happened with the farmers, the same happened with the employees and now the same is being done with the villagers asking for water. The government has failed in providing facilities to the public but is at the forefront in getting lathicharge done.
Ground reality of development in Haryana
He said that Chief Minister Nayab Singh continuously claims that Haryana is developing, but the ground reality is that people are wandering from door to door for drinking water. Surviving in villages is dependent on tankers. Many panchayats are forced to procure water at their own expense. This is one of the biggest administrative failures of the BJP government.
He demanded that Chief Minister Nayab Singh immediately apologize to the people, women and elders of Chanaut village, take action against the guilty officials and find a permanent solution to the Bhakra water issue. Aam Aadmi Party stands strongly with the farmers and villagers and if needed, a big movement will be organized in the entire state against this anti-people and dictatorial attitude.
