
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced to make Ashutosh Tiwari its candidate in place of former Home Minister Narottam Mishra from Datia seat of Madhya Pradesh. Ashutosh Tiwari has welcomed being made a candidate in Datia Assembly by-election, while Congress has taken a dig at BJP regarding this. While talking to TV9 Bharatvarsh, BJP candidate from Datia seat Ashutosh Tiwari said that the party has given me a chance. Heartfelt gratitude for this. Narottam Mishra is our senior leader. One always gets his blessings and guidance. He himself will campaign to make me win.
Whereas Congress Narottam Mishra On cutting the ticket he quipped. Congress spokesperson Abhinav Barolia said that everything is not going well in BJP. Former Home Minister Narottam Mishra had also purchased the nomination form and after that his ticket was canceled. This shows that there is factionalism within the party.
Datia assembly seat is a politically important seat in Madhya Pradesh. In the electoral contests of the state, there has often been one seat on which everyone’s eyes are kept. Datia assembly by-election in Madhya Pradesh is scheduled to be held on July 30, and counting of votes will take place on August 3, 2026.
The seat was vacant after Rajendra Bharti was disqualified.
The seat fell vacant in April after the disqualification of Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti, who had earlier defeated senior BJP leader Narottam Mishra in the 2023 elections. In 2023, Rajendra Bharti (INC) won the Datia seat by 7,742 votes, defeating Narottam Mishra. In such a situation, Narottam Mishra’s claim on this seat was being considered, but the party replaced him. Ashutosh Tiwari has been fielded in the election.
Ashutosh Tiwari had earlier sought BJP ticket from Sevda Assembly seat in the 2023 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, but he was ignored for Pradeep Aggarwal. Ashutosh Tiwari has been the Divisional Organization Minister of BJP and was also the Chairman of Madhya Pradesh Housing Board, and he had the status of Cabinet Minister.
Narottam Mishra got a shock
This announcement was surprising because former Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh Dr. Narottam Mishra had started campaigning only after the announcement of by-elections. He had addressed several public meetings and also bought his nomination form earlier this week, leading to speculations that he would be the BJP candidate.
Despite these preparations, the party leadership chose Ashutosh Tiwari. So far, 13 candidates have purchased nomination forms, while four have already filed their nominations.
