Hackers hacked many high-profile Instagram accounts, this is how Meta AI was tricked!

June 2, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Not only the common man, Meta AI also got trapped in the tricks of hackers, it may sound strange and shocking but it is true. Actually, hackers tricked Meta AI and asked for help from AI to take control of many high profile Instagram accounts. This came to light recently when hackers reportedly took control of access to several well-known Instagram accounts, including Sephora, the Obama-era White House handle, and the account of a senior US Space Force official.

Meta says that this problem has been resolved. Hackers manipulated the Meta AI chatbot to send a password reset code to their own email address, so that they did not need to access the Instagram account holder’s email or phone.

How did the matter come to light?

Security researchers ZachXBT and Dark Web Informer were the first to bring this flaw to the public, saying that hackers have found a way to manipulate the Meta AI assistant. When users on X, Reddit and Telegram reported that their accounts were hacked, the matter attracted everyone’s attention.

How did you cheat Meta AI?

According to demonstrations and videos shared online, the attack did not rely on advanced malware or phishing scams. Instead, the hackers reportedly took advantage of the Meta AI assistant. The hackers first used a VPN to pretend that they were logging in from the same region as the targeted account, then went to the Instagram login page and then clicked on Forgot Password and started chatting with the Meta AI support assistant through the Get Support feature.

The hackers then used carefully crafted prompts to convince the chatbot to add a new email address to the victim’s account. Once the AI assistant accepted the request, it sent the verification code to an email address controlled by the attacker instead of the original account owner.

After entering the verification code in the chatbot, the attackers got the option to reset the password. What happened next, the hackers created a new password and gained control of the account without accessing the victim’s real email inbox or phone number.

According to a report by TechCrunch, the publication verified a part of the attack. The report also said that this method often did not work on the first try, which is why hackers sometimes had to repeat the process several times before the chatbot agreed.
