Gurugram will have a new record, the country’s tallest building is going to be built!

June 6, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Two people with knowledge of the Haryana government’s plans said that India’s tallest building is expected to be built in the proposed ‘Global City’ project in Gurugram. The Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), which will auction the land for the Global City project spread over 1,000 acres, has selected a plot of 6.7 acres, these people said. There is a plan to build a 620-700 meter high ‘mixed-use’ building here. The state government has held several talks with property developers from NCR, Bengaluru and Mumbai over the last two-three years for this mega project near Dwarka Expressway in Gurugram.

Where will the tallest building be built in Gurugram?

The Global City will be built near a multimodal logistics park, in which special attention will be paid to sustainability and environment-friendly measures. It will have a mix of commercial and residential development and will be based on the concept of ‘walk-to-work’. In India, any building more than 150 meters high is classified as ‘tall building’. High-rise projects in NCR include Supernova in Noida (300 m), Trump Towers in Gurugram (198.84 m), The Leela Sky Villa in Delhi (190 m) and Raheja Revanta in Gurugram (199.7 m).

Tremendous growth in Gurugram

Pradeep Agarwal, Founder and Chairman, Signature Global (India) Limited said that over the last few years, Gurugram has emerged as one of the most preferred locations for real estate in India. There has been tremendous growth here in both the residential and commercial sectors, and in many cases it has even left Mumbai and Delhi behind. He further said that the Haryana government’s plan to build India’s tallest building will further enhance the status of the city and add another spectacular landmark to its skyline.

77 percent high rise in Mumbai in India

77 percent of the total tall buildings in the country are in Mumbai. According to real estate consultancy CBRE, India’s financial capital Mumbai ranks 17th worldwide and 14th in Asia in terms of the number of tall buildings. Limited availability of land and rapidly increasing population have been the main reasons for vertical growth in Mumbai in the last few years. Haryana government is also starting a new metro line along Dwarka Expressway. This will help developers expand their projects under the ‘Transit-Oriented Development Policy’, while there are restrictions on the height of buildings in the rest of the NCR.

Investor confidence will increase

Dwarka Expressway has emerged as one of the most important infrastructure corridors of NCR, providing connectivity between Delhi, Gurugram and major commercial hubs. Kunal Rishi, Chief Operating Officer, Krisumi Corporation, said that the development of such a mega project on this corridor will boost investor confidence, promote premium development and accelerate the transformation of this area into a world-class urban destination. The share of Hyderabad, Kolkata and Noida in tall buildings of India is 8%, 7% and 5% respectively. Gurugram, Bengaluru and Chennai each contribute 1%. Other tall buildings in Delhi include the 101.9 meter high ATC Tower (upon completion), the 235 meter high Pitampura TV Tower, the 102 meter high Civic Center and the 72.5 meter high Qutub Minar.
