A long standing tradition was broken as soon as the match started at Narendra Modi Stadium. This is the first time after 18 years that Mahendra Singh Dhoni has not played a single league match in the entire IPL season. Dhoni has been completely out of action since the beginning of IPL due to injury, which proved to be the biggest blow for CSK.
Injuries troubled MS Dhoni
Dhoni suffered a calf injury during the pre-season camp just before the start of the season. After which the team management had initially expressed hope that he would return in just two weeks. But the injury kept troubling him again and again. Dhoni tried to make a comeback, which worsened the injury. After this, he suffered a new injury to his thumb during the last matches of the league stage. Dhoni has returned to Ranchi after the injury. The team has said that if CSK makes it to the playoffs, Dhoni can join the team again, but at present his thumb is healing.
Let us tell you, MS Dhoni is among the oldest and most match-playing players of this league. Dhoni has to play more than 10 matches in every season of IPL. But this is the first time that their season has ended without playing any league match. Dhoni has played 278 matches in IPL so far, during which he has scored 5439 runs. Along with this, under his captaincy, he has also made Chennai Super Kings champion 5 times.
