Governor Review in Hindi: Earning money, counting it and spending it… these are three things that everyone in the world likes. But the mathematics, science and economics behind this money are not understood by anyone except the commerce people. Now just think, if someone takes up such a dry, boring and heavy subject and makes a film of more than two hours, then it is no less than a big challenge in itself. But director Chinmay D. Mandlekar and acting maestro Manoj Bajpayee not only accepted this challenge but also played it on screen with complete honesty. The name of the film is ‘Governor’.
This film takes us to a dark and scary page of India’s economic history, about which our present generation hardly knows anything. We common people are often unaware of what games are going on behind the running of the country. Movie ‘Governor‘ It is an interesting and eye-opening medium of the same hidden truth.

Know what is the story of the film Governor?
The story starts from the present day, Sri Lanka of the year 2022, which is completely bankrupt and its citizens are on the streets, desperate for every little thing. Seeing this horrifying scene, the flashback of 1990 India begins. Journalist Aditi Verma (Ada Sharma) is telling the story to her grandson, which she had seen with her own eyes.
This is the story of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor A. Ramanan (Manoj Bajpayee), who is the son of real life then Governor S. Inspired by the characters and events of Venkitaramanan. In the year 1990, India’s economic condition had become so bad that the country had only 1.2 billion dollars left to run its government and repay its debt. Foreign exchange reserves were completely emptying, inflation was skyrocketing, there was an oil crisis due to the Gulf War and on top of that there was an atmosphere of political instability in the country. Governments were changing, assassinations of leaders were taking place.
In such a situation, to save the country from poverty and infamy, Governor A. Ramanan takes a decision which was as bold as it was controversial. Now after this decision, what papads had to be rolled, what negotiations took place with the leaders, this is the main story of this political-economic thriller.
Know how the film is?
Often people think that a film based on banks, RBI and the country’s budget will go over their heads or bore them. But the biggest quality of ‘Governor’ is that it does not let you get bored even for a moment. Instead of making it a documentary or ‘Bollywoodia Rona-Dhona’, the director has presented it like a race-against-time thriller.

Without getting into the debate of how many historical facts are true in the film and how many have been changed for drama, if we look at it as a cinema, then it is a very interesting film. The first half of the film takes some time to establish the atmosphere and explain the seriousness of the crisis, but as soon as the second half begins and the ‘secret mission’ begins, the film suddenly transforms into a gripping thriller.
Direction and writing
Chinmay D. Mandlekar has done an amazing job as a director. He has maintained the suspense and political drama very well in the film. However, the writing and screenplay of the film feels a bit sluggish at times, especially in those scenes which are very dialogue-heavy. There the pace of the film slows down a bit. But some scenes of the film have been written so strongly that they get imprinted on your mind. For example, there is a scene where Manoj Bajpayee does not use an expensive ‘Parker’ pen to sign a very important document that decides the fate of the country, but takes a simple pen of Rs 2 from his pocket.
This one scene, without any long dialogue, tells the simplicity, honesty and roots of that character. Talking about writing, a little more work could have been done on the characters, but still Chinmay Mandlekar had tried to present to us a suppressed aspect of the country’s history with complete honesty with this film.
Know how is the acting of the actors of the film ‘Governor’?
Now coming to the department on which this film rests, i.e. the acting of the actors. Manoj Bajpayee He is one of those few actors in this country who, even if he just sits quietly on the screen, tells the entire story with his eyes. As ‘Governor’ he has once again given a masterclass performance. He did not allow this role to become loud or filmy. The burden of the country’s poverty, the tension of leadership and the moral dilemmas seen on his face shake you to the core.
Adah Sharma has done a good job in the role of a stubborn journalist Aditi Verma. His character shows how in the 90s, journalists used to run to what extent to get an exclusive news. At the same time, the supporting role of Madhu, who was seen on screen after a long time, is small but very effective. The rest of the supporting cast has also played their characters well.

see or not
Overall, ‘Governor’ is a very important, honest and eye-opening film. This is the story of those people who change the fate of the country by staying behind the scenes, without any noise, without coming into the limelight. This film reminds us that the country is not saved only by pointing guns at the borders, sometimes to save the honor of the country, one has to use the power of mind and pen while sitting in offices.
