May 23, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Former Chief Minister of Rajasthan and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot has made a scathing attack on BJP’s Bhajan Lal government over the rising prices of petrol and diesel. While posting on X, he wrote that Rajasthan government is benefiting due to petrol and diesel becoming expensive. He has demanded the BJP government to provide relief to the common people by reducing their VAT.

He further said in the post on X, ‘The continuous increase in the prices of petrol and diesel is putting a heavy burden on the pockets of the common man. Due to the increase in freight charges, every day-to-day item has become expensive, due to which the life of the poor and middle class has become difficult. The direct and biggest loss due to diesel becoming expensive is being suffered by our Annadata farmers, due to which their agricultural costs have increased.

Ashok Gehlot said, ‘When petrol and diesel become expensive, the VAT of the state government automatically increases, due to which the government gets additional revenue. While in opposition, BJP used to continuously raise questions regarding VAT, but even today the VAT in Rajasthan is much higher than the neighboring states of Haryana and Gujarat. The state government should leave aside its profits and think about the interests of the common people. Also tagging Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, he wrote, ‘My demand is that the state government should immediately reduce VAT and road cess, so that the people of the state can get some relief from this back-breaking inflation.’

Posting on social media platform Due to this, long queues are forming at petrol pumps.
