
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday announced that the central government has constituted a high-level committee to investigate the demographic changes taking place in the country due to ‘illegal migration and other unnatural reasons’ (Unnatural Demographic Change). In a post on X, Shah said, “Unnatural demographic change caused by infiltration and other reasons is a huge challenge for the present and future of any country.”
Shah said that this committee has been formed after the announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15, 2025. In which he talked about forming “a high-level committee on demographic change”. According to Shah, this panel will be headed by retired judge Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar and it will include Census Commissioner, former IAS officer Durga Shankar Mishra, former IPS officer Balaji Srivastava and economist Dr. Shamika Ravi as members.

Shah called demographic change a serious issue
Amit Shah said in his post, “Demographic change is a serious problem related to our sovereignty as well as national security, law and order, serious changes in social structure and protection of tribal society. This committee will comprehensively assess the demographic changes taking place across India due to illegal migration and other abnormal reasons and will analyze the pattern of abnormal population changes at the level of religious and social communities and present a planned and time-bound solution to it.”
