Government alert on West Asia crisis, big update regarding petrol-diesel stock

May 27, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Amidst the increasing tension in West Asia, the Central Government held a major review meeting regarding the availability of petrol, diesel, LPG and essential goods in the country. The GMO Group of Ministers (IGoM) meeting chaired by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was held in New Delhi, which was attended by many Union Ministers and senior officials.

The country’s supply chain, fuel stock and availability of fertilizers were reviewed in the meeting. The government clearly said that at present there is no shortage of any essential goods in the country and people do not need to panic buy.

Petrol and diesel supply completely normal

After the meeting, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that the supply of petrol, diesel and LPG in the country remains normal. He appealed to the people not to pay attention to rumors and not to purchase more fuel than necessary. The government said that India is the fourth largest refining country in the world. The total refining capacity of the country is more than the domestic requirement, so there is no crisis regarding supply at present.

The 6th meeting of IGoM was held to review the availability of essential commodities and the resilience of our supply chains, keeping the West Asia situation in mind.

Oil companies are bearing a huge burden

The government said that despite the increase in the prices of crude oil in the international market, the government oil companies are not passing the entire burden on the common people. Oil marketing companies are bearing losses of up to Rs 550 crore daily so that customers can get relief.

However, at some places, complaints of black marketing and purchasing diesel from retail pumps for industrial use have also come to light. The central and state governments have increased surveillance on this.

Adequate stock of fertilizer available

Availability of fertilizers was also discussed in the meeting. The government said that there is sufficient stock of fertilizer in the country for the Kharif season 2026. At present, more than 51 percent fertilizer is available as compared to the requirement, which is considered much better than the normal level.

Relief to MSME sector also

The government said that relief is also being given to small businesses and MSME sector through the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme 5.0. The Central Government has assured that despite the West Asia crisis, the supply of essential goods in the country will remain normal and the situation is being constantly monitored.
