July 21, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Glasgow 2026: Commonwealth Games 2026 is going to start from 23rd July. This time the Commonwealth Games is being organized in Glasgow. Last time i.e. in the year 2022, when the Commonwealth Games were organized in Birmingham city of England, India had won 61 medals there, of which 22 were gold medals. The big thing is that the six sports in which India won 30 out of 61 medals in Birmingham are missing from the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Meaning, they will not be seen being organized in Glasgow.

These 6 sports will not be the guarantee of India’s medal in Glasgow

In the last Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, India had won a total of 30 medals in hockey, badminton, cricket, table tennis, wrestling and squash, out of which 13 were gold medals. But, apart from these 6 sports which are considered a medal guarantee for India, Rugby Sevens will also not be organized in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026.

What sports will be in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games?

Now the question is, which sports will be seen again in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026? Only 10 sports will be seen in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games to be held between 23 July and 2 August. The names of those 10 games are as follows.

  1. Athletics and para-athletics
  2. swimming and mercury swimming
  3. artistic gymnastics
  4. Track cycling and mercury cycling
  5. Weightlifting and mercury powerlifting
  6. net ball
  7. boxing
  8. Judo
  9. Lawn Bowls and Para Bowls
  10. basketball and wheelchair basketball

Commonwealth Games 2026: Medal tally may be affected

Out of these 10 sports going to be held in Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026, India is expected to win medals in Athletics, Boxing, Judo, Lawn Bowls, Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting. In the last Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, India had won 31 medals in these games, of which 8 were gold. Last time India had won maximum gold in wrestling and table tennis. But both those sports are not part of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026. In such a situation, its impact can be seen on India’s medal tally.
