Garud Puran: These four habits, which push a rich family into poverty! Are you in too?

July 2, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Bad habits for poverty: Garuda Purana is considered very special in Hindu religion. It has been included in 18 Mahapuranas. It explains in detail about life, death, journey of the soul, heaven, hell, sins and virtuous deeds. Garuda Purana is recited at home after someone’s death, but in Garuda Purana not only about the mystery of life and death, many important things about the living standards of humans have been told.

In the Achar Kanda of Garuda Purana, some such bad habits of human beings have been mentioned which make even a good and happy family dependent on everything. Often people avoid these things by calling them small matters, but these small mistakes gradually take away the happiness, peace and blessings of the house. Let us know that according to Garuda Purana, what are the four habits that push a person’s family into poverty?

four bad habits

Sleeping till late after sunrise: The first worst habit is considered to be sleeping till late after sunrise. According to Garuda Purana, Goddess Lakshmi never resides in the house where people do not leave their bed even after the sun rises in the morning. Morning is considered the time of the gods. Sleeping at this time increases laziness in the body. Laziness does not allow a person to work hard, due to which luck leaves him, hence wake up early in the morning.

Eating food: According to Garuda Purana, the second bad habit is considered to be consuming food. Nowadays people waste a lot of food. This is considered a big sin in the scriptures. Mother Annapurna does not reside in a house where food is wasted. Therefore, never insult food by throwing it.

Wearing dirty clothes: Wearing dirty clothes and littering around is the third bad habit. Many people wear the same clothes for many days and do not clean the dirt in the house. Garuda Purana says that poverty always resides in filth. The mind of a person who is not physically and mentally clean also does not remain calm. Due to dirt, negative energy comes into the house, due to which the money of the house starts getting spent on diseases.

Having bitterness towards others: The fourth and last bad habit is to be bitter and angry towards others. In a house where there is only shouting and fighting in the morning and evening, there can never be any blessings.
