
In May–June 2026, India conducted its biggest ever university entrance test, CUET (UG) 2026. In which 1,568,867 students registered and out of them 1,164,098 students actually appeared in the examination. It was not just an examination, it was the door to Delhi University for a village child, a ticket to BHU for a girl from Kashmir and the path to JNU for a student from the North-East. One exam and 244 universities.
This examination lasted for 19 days and 35 shifts. It was organized in 321 cities across the country as well as in 13 international cities. Examination centers were set up from Abu Dhabi to Washington. Students had the freedom to choose five subjects out of a total of 37 subjects, which included 13 languages, 23 domain subjects and one general test. The question papers were set in 13 languages, which included English, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali and Urdu.
Situation changed this year
The situation changed in 2026 compared to the year 2025. Registration increased by 15%. The most important thing was that more girls came forward. The number of female candidates increased by 20%, which reduced the gender gap. A total of 774,607 girls and 794,257 boys registered.
There are more children of this category among the candidates.
The candidates included 171,397 students from SC category, 95,464 from ST, 528,838 from OBC and 86,749 from EWS. Apart from this, 5,033 students of PwD category also appeared.
English subject had the highest number of registrations at 1,322,441 and Hindi was at second place, which was chosen by 218,058 students.
Who scored the highest?
A student scored 100 percentile in four out of five subjects. 22 students scored 100th percentile in 3 subjects, 180 students scored in 2 subjects and 3,214 students scored 100th percentile in 1 subject. The student with application number 263510269243 achieved a total NTA score of 1232.19 in 5 subjects. This score of 1232.19 was also the highest among girls. The highest score among boys was 1230.82.
Subject wise, the highest score was recorded in Accountancy at 250.00. It was 249.70 in Biology, 249.54 in Economics and 249.58 in Political Science.
Results in 16 days
The examinations were held between 11–31 May and 6–7 June and the results were declared on 23 June. In just 16 days. This was 14 days earlier than last year. Here the role of NTA ends. Now universities will prepare the merit list. The students’ scores have been sent directly to the universities.
