
Indian-origin astronaut Anil Menon has left for his first space journey. They are going to the International Space Station (ISS) in Russia’s Soyuz MS-29 spacecraft. He is also accompanied by two Russian cosmonauts, Pyotr Dubrov and Anna Kikina. This flight took place from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. These three astronauts will stay at the space station for about 8 months. There they will conduct scientific experiments and research. All of them may return to Earth in 2027.
According to NASA, they will also participate in demos related to advanced medical and technology. These also include ultrasound procedures, in which augmented reality and artificial intelligence are used to assist astronauts during future deep space missions. Anil Menon was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota (USA). His parents came from India and Ukraine. His wife’s name is Anna Menon and he has two children. He is also a pilot. He has flown more than 1,000 hours and also provides general aviation training. He likes adventure.
He has also completed a Bachelor’s degree in Neurobiology from Harvard University, a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, a Doctor’s degree (MD) from Stanford Medical School, and a Masters in Public Health. He is an expert in aerospace (space related treatment) and emergency medicine (emergency treatment).
