The Indian Army is taking big steps towards further modernizing its Infantry. The Army has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to purchase 450 Carl Gustaf Mark-IV (84mm) lightweight rocket launchers. It is being told that these new launchers will replace the old Mark-III system.
These new Mark-IV launchers will be lighter, more accurate and reliable. Their weight will be less than 7 kg, so that soldiers will be able to carry them easily. The effective range of these launchers will be from 350 to 800 meters. Also, they will be able to work in temperatures ranging from -20 degrees to +50 degrees Celsius. This means that they can be used in all types of fronts, from the high snowy peaks of Ladakh on LAC to the desert of Rajasthan in LoC.
Launchers will have to be handed over to the army within a year
According to the RFP, the selected company will have to hand over all the launchers to the Army within 12 months i.e. one year of getting the contract. Apart from this, the company will also have to provide technical support (Product Support) for 15 years and 24 months warranty. The government has also made it clear in this tender that companies from countries sharing land borders with India will not be able to participate in it.
Will work in all weather
Indian Army is deployed in different areas of the country. Therefore, it is important that the weapon functions properly in all types of weather. For this reason, it has been stipulated in the RFP that the launcher should be capable of working without any interruption in temperatures ranging from -20 degrees to 50 degrees Celsius. This means that it can be deployed anywhere, from the snowy regions of the Himalayas to the scorching desert of Rajasthan.
Border security will become stronger
This system will strengthen the anti-tank and bunker destroying capability of the Indian Army and will significantly increase the fire power of the infantry deployed on the border. It is believed that this will make it easier for the foot soldiers to kill their enemies. Besides, border security will also be stronger than before.
