From the battle for possession of Hormuz to the nuclear issue, there are many complications in the US-Iran deal.

June 13, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Explosions are taking place in the Strait of Hormuz. There are claims of action being taken on ships. Drones are being intercepted, but meanwhile America and Iran are also preparing for a historic agreement. The question is that when the conflict continues at sea, then how is the ground for a peace agreement being prepared? Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump claimed that the deal will be signed on Sunday, but Iran says that the deal is final, but will not be signed on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Pakistan remains the mediator in this entire process, but there are deep differences between the two countries on many terms of the agreement. So will this deal provide new stability to West Asia or will the conflict that started in Hormuz take the form of a bigger war?

On one side there is discussion of 14-point MoU between America and Iran, on the other side strait of hormuz The tension in the waters of Iran is continuously increasing and now the new center of this conflict has become the Syriac area of Iran.

According to Iranian government media, sounds of explosions were heard around Syriac Port. Subsequently, reports by IRIB and Mehr claimed that Iran took action against ships that were trying to cross the Strait of Hormuz without Iran’s permission.

Hormuz became the ground for demonstration of power

America is also doing the same thing in Hormuz, the sea route through which the world’s most important oil and gas ships pass. Now an open display of strength is taking place on the same path. According to Reuters report, America intercepted several Iranian one-way attack drones moving in the direction of Hormuz. American officials claim that these drones could become a threat to maritime traffic. That means on one side Iran is taking action, on the other side America is doing interception and Hormuz is burning between the claims of both.

Trump has claimed that Iranian drone activities against ships leaving Hormuz are completely unacceptable. That is, whatever is happening in the sea. Now the White House is also openly reacting to it, but the biggest question is why is all this happening at that time? When both the sides are even talking about a compromise.

On one side, drones in the sea, on the other side, diplomacy, on one side, demonstration of power, on the other side, peace talks. The tension in the waters of Hormuz is not decreasing, but appears to be increasing continuously.

What are you showing your strength before the agreement?

In such a situation the question arises that Are America and Iran really close to an agreement or are both sides showing their strength for the last time before an agreement? Fingers are placed on the trigger from both sides. Iran and America have made Hormuz a battlefield. The Strait of Hormuz has now become a ground for show of force between America and Iran. The Iranian side claims that several explosions took place near Syriac Port. Iran’s IRGC Navy took action and ships passing without permission were targeted. Iran used drones for this.

On the other hand, CENTCOM is claiming to enforce the blockade on behalf of the American Army. According to the American side, the routes of 139 ships have been changed and 9 ships have been attacked and prevented from moving forward.

America is also claiming that many Iranian drones moving towards Hormuz have been intercepted. Amidst reports of movement of warships and drone interception in the Strait of Hormuz, the script of a peace agreement is being written in another corner of the world.

Pakistan’s role in ‘Islamabad Memorandum’

The proposed peace agreement that is being negotiated between America and Iran has been named ‘Islamabad Memorandum’. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has reached Switzerland to play the role of mediator in this entire process. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Isak Dar has gone to Switzerland with him, but the big thing is that the agreement for which Pakistan is mediating. How will that agreement be signed? There has been a dispute on this matter.

Al Arabiya and Iranian news agency IRNA report that the potential agreement between the US and Iran is highly unlikely to be signed face-to-face in Geneva. Instead, preparations are going on for remote signing between the two parties through digital means, that is, there is so much bitterness on both sides that even the document on which talks have been going on for months, both the parties are not going to sign while sitting in the same room. In such a situation, the question is that even if the deal is done, for how long will it last?

Negotiations on 14-point MoU in final stage

On the other hand, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has confirmed that negotiations on the 14-point MoU have reached the final stage. According to Aragchi, this agreement will proceed in two phases. Nuclear issues have not been included in the first phase. The Iranian leadership claims that the document is almost ready, but final approval is still pending and changes are possible until the last moment.

That means now the ball is in the court of Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has written a post on Truth Social alleging that Iran is adopting a dual attitude regarding the terms of the agreement, there is a big difference between what is in the written draft and what is being brought out in the media.

Trump even said that it is very difficult to work with Iran on the basis of good faith, because public statements and actual negotiations do not look the same. However, in the same statement, Trump also expressed the hope that an agreement could be signed by this weekend or Monday. That means now the real question is not when will the MoU be signed? The real question is what is there in that document on which consensus is still not being reached, because there are at least five major disputes that can stop the entire deal at any time.

Let us know what are the controversies

If the agreement is so close, then where is the hurdle? Actually, there are at least 5 major disputes between America and Iran.

  1. Who will have control of the Strait of Hormuz?
  2. What will be the future of Iran’s nuclear program?
  3. What will happen to the frozen assets worth $24 billion?
  4. How will the question of war expenses and compensation be resolved?
  5. What will be the final decision regarding Lebanon and Hezbollah?

The terms of the 14-point MoU are also not being discussed. Iran wants its control over Hormuz to remain intact, but America wants the same system as before in Hormuz. Iran wants service charges to be implemented in Hormuz, but America does not approve of any charges in Hormuz.

Even if a deal is made, how long will it last?

Iran wants its frozen assets to be released immediately, but America wants the nuclear sites to be verified first. Iran does not want nuclear discussions in the first phase, America wants to provide any economic relief only after the nuclear infrastructure is dismantled. Iran wants that the dilution of uranium will happen within Iran itself, but Trump wants to completely destroy Iran’s nuclear bases by snatching the uranium.

How difficult is it to make this deal and then make it last? This shows that Iran has made it clear that the Strait of Hormuz will never return to its previous state. Iran and Oman will have control over it. Iran is also demanding that after the agreement, half of its frozen assets worth $24 billion will have to be released immediately, but America has a condition that unless Iran dismantles its nuclear infrastructure, it will not get any money.

Iran’s attitude shows that it is not ready to bow down. In such a situation, the biggest question is whether Donald Trump is surrendering to Iran by accepting Iran’s conditions or is this diplomatic dilemma going to soon turn into a fierce global war in the Strait of Hormuz.
