The Central Government has appointed senior IPS officer Mahesh Dixit as the new Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB). IPS Mahesh is an experienced intelligence officer. He has handled many major responsibilities related to the internal security of India, which also includes the responsibility of security in Jammu and Kashmir after the removal of Article 370. His posting here took place in August 2019 at the time of changes made in the security system. Before getting the opportunity of such a big responsibility for the country, let us know about some special things related to IPS Mahesh Dixit.

Mahesh Dixit is a 1993 batch IPS officer and his current cadre is Andhra Pradesh. He has completed his graduation in medical field. Dixit has spent a large part of her career on central deputation to the Intelligence Bureau. Then he gradually reached higher positions in the organization. According to an English website, apart from working on security issues related to Kashmir, Mahesh Dixit also has considerable experience of working in South India. He kept an eye on terrorist networks in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and also took action.

Several decades of experience in this field

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Mahesh Dixit. He was currently working as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau (IB). Now he has been given extension of service (additional time) to become the Director of IB. He has decades of experience in gathering intelligence, fighting terrorism and handling the security of the country.

When did you get big responsibility?

A very important milestone in his career came in August 2019, when Article 370 was removed from Jammu and Kashmir. Dixit played a big role in assessing the security impact of this historic decision. He also helped in formulating strategies to maintain law and order in this time of change. After the removal of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. At this time, Mahesh Dixit was given big responsibilities related to intelligence, on which he worked very well.

Diplomatic activities increased in Jammu

The G20 Tourism Working Group meeting was successfully held in Srinagar in 2023. Many countries participated in this meeting and it received a lot of attention at the international level as well. This program was considered a big proof of improving security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. International engagement with the region increased with the visit of many foreign diplomats to Kashmir during the meeting. During this period, Mahesh Dixit played an important role in correctly assessing the ground situation. Because of him, diplomatic activities increased even amidst security and the trust of people and foreigners was established.
