From DigiLocker to Rail Madad, these 12 government apps will give you relief from paperwork!

The Government of India has launched many mobile apps in the last decade, so that government services can be easily accessible to the people and paperwork can be reduced. From keeping digital copies of government documents to viewing vehicle information and accessing health records, these apps help users complete many tasks without visiting government offices. Here are 12 such government apps which are very useful for common people in their daily tasks.

Essential app for documents, identity and services

  1. DigiLocker- DigiLocker, developed under the ‘Digital India’ programme, allows users to save and view digital copies of documents like driving license, vehicle registration certificate, education certificate and insurance papers. According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, documents issued through DigiLocker are considered legally valid in many cases.
  2. UMANG- ‘Unified Mobile Application for New-Age Governance’ (UMANG) acts as a gateway to hundreds of central and state government services. Users can get information related to EPFO, PAN, Health, Education, Utility and other services from a single platform.
  3. mAadhaar- mAadhaar, created by UIDAI, allows users to keep a digital copy of their Aadhaar card, update certain information and create a virtual ID to verify their identity. This is very useful when you do not have the original copy of Aadhar card.
  4. BHIM- ‘Bharat Interface for Money’ (BHIM) app provides UPI-based payment and money transfer facility. Although many private apps dominate the UPI space, BHIM remains the main digital payment platform of the government.
  5. mParivahan- This app of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways allows users to view digital driving license and registration certificate, verify vehicle information and get transport related information.
  6. FASTag- Users can track toll payments, recharge FASTag accounts and monitor transactions through the app linked to the ‘National Electronic Toll Collection’ system.

Services focused on health, travel and citizens

  1. ABHA App- The ‘Ayushman Bharat Health Account’ app helps users create a digital health ID and manage their health records. The government aims to create an integrated digital health system through this platform.
  2. Aarogya Setu- Aarogya Setu, initially launched during the pandemic, has now evolved into a major health and public information platform where health-related services and information are available.
  3. Rail Madad- Passengers traveling on Indian Railways can use Rail Madad to lodge complaints, seek help and track the status of their complaints during their journey.
  4. IRCTC Rail Connect- This is the official booking app of Railways, through which you can book tickets, cancel them, get refund and also check the train status directly from your smartphone.
  5. MyGov- MyGov is a platform where citizens can connect with the government. Here users can participate in surveys, policy discussions, consultations and government initiatives.
  6. PM Kisan App- This app has been created for the beneficiaries of PM-KISAN scheme. With its help, farmers can check the status of their payment, update their information and get the latest information related to the scheme.

Why should you have these apps in your phone?

As government services move online, these apps can help citizens save time, reduce paperwork and access information easily. Where many users will already be familiar with popular apps like DigiLocker and BHIM. At the same time, some other apps like Rail Madad, ABHA and MyGov, which are very useful, are still not used that much.
