From defense technology to maritime security… Emphasis on cooperation in India-Singapore Defense Dialogue

India’s Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Permanent Secretary (Defence) Joseph Leong co-chaired the 16th India-Singapore Defense Policy Dialogue in Singapore on Thursday. The two Secretaries reviewed the progress of the ongoing defense engagement and had extensive discussions on key areas such as defense cooperation, military engagement, defense industry cooperation, capacity building and regional security issues. They also explored new ways to further strengthen strategic relationships and enhance cooperation in areas of mutual benefit, including collaboration between industries.

The discussions emphasized the importance of innovation-driven partnerships and deeper cooperation in emerging areas to address emerging regional and global security challenges.

Emerging Defense Technologies and Common Steps in Cyber ​​Security

Both sides appreciated the continued cooperation between India and Singapore in regional and multilateral forums, including the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-led mechanisms and the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) framework.

Both countries reiterated their commitment to support an open, inclusive and rules-based regional security architecture by promoting practical and constructive defense cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

Strategic relations and future of bilateral defense cooperation

The importance of continued high-level exchanges and deeper institutional cooperation in taking forward the India-Singapore Strategic Partnership was emphasized in the talks. They reiterated their commitment to further enhance bilateral defense relations and promote closer cooperation in the coming years.

The Defense Secretary also visited the Digital Operations Technology Center of the Digital and Intelligence Service of the Singapore Armed Forces. The visit provided valuable insight into the digital and technical capabilities of the Singapore Armed Forces to explore collaboration with the Indian Defense Forces in specific and emerging combat domains.
