
Trinamool Congress (TMC) general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee was attacked by some people during a visit to Sonarpur South in West Bengal on Saturday. He was on his way to meet the families affected by the post-poll violence when unidentified people pelted stones, eggs and shoes at him. The incident took place in South 24 Parganas district. Abhishek has accused BJP of this attack.
According to eyewitnesses, a group of unidentified people raised slogans of ‘thief-thief’, threw deadly objects at the TMC MP and tried to physically attack him. Police have confirmed the incident, although no one has been arrested yet. After this attack, opposition leaders across the country have fiercely targeted the BJP government of West Bengal and the Centre.

Commenting on the attack, TMC said, “Even after the deadly attack by BJP-backed goons, our National General Secretary refused to back down. Instead, he stood by the family which has been left devastated by an unimaginable shock allegedly inflicted by BJP-backed goons.”
Kharge accused BJP of doing politics of vengeance and oppression
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote on social media platform Can.”

Akhilesh Yadav also taunted
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has also reacted sharply, writing on Twitter, “By carrying out a deadly attack on an important leader of Trinamool Congress, Shri Abhishek Banerjee, the anarchist BJP government of Bengal has proved that the BJP cannot do anything other than hate-filled negative violent politics. The absence of police arrangements even in such a sensitive environment points towards a bigger conspiracy. Highly condemnable!”

After these statements of the opposition leaders, the political stir has intensified. Trinamool Congress has alleged that this attack was pre-planned and there is connivance of the local administration in it. At the same time, the BJP government of West Bengal has not yet given any official response on this matter.
