
The Government of India has announced a day of national mourning in the entire country on Monday on the death of Qatar’s Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. According to the order issued by the Home Ministry, during the national mourning, the national flag will remain at half mast on all those government buildings across the country where the tricolor is hoisted regularly. Along with this, no official government entertainment program will be organized throughout the day.
Sheikh Hamad died on Sunday at the age of 74. The Qatar government announced his death, but did not reveal the reason. He is credited with reshaping Qatar through sweeping economic reforms, enhancing its global influence and laying the foundation for its role as a major energy exporter and international broker.
PM Modi expressed grief
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep condolences on the demise of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, calling him a visionary leader. The Prime Minister said that under his leadership Qatar reached new heights of development and prosperity. He also said that Sheikh Hamad was a true friend of India and had an important contribution in strengthening the relations between the two countries.

Hamad was the Emir of Qatar till 2013
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was the Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013. During his reign, Qatar made significant progress economically, infrastructure and globally. In 2013, he voluntarily handed over power to his son and current Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
