Forget your birthday date? WhatsApp will remind you of your birthday, this new feature is coming

July 10, 2026 by Uma Shankar

WhatsApp is now testing a new feature for better experience of users which will remind you of your contacts’ birthdays. This new WhatsApp feature has been seen in Android beta version. After the arrival of this update, when a contact has a birthday, this instant messaging platform will send an in-app notification to the user. Apart from this, the company can also bring a new dedicated section listing all the birthdays. It is being said that to turn on this feature, the company will use the data collected under regulatory rules in some markets. The report also states that the dates of birth were initially collected by the platform for age verification.

New birthday feature of WhatsApp on Android

WABetaInfo, a platform that keeps an eye on new features coming to the messaging app, has spotted this new feature which will help users remember the birthdays of their contacts. It is still in the development stage, this feature is in the latest Android beta 2.26.27.3 update of WhatsApp but currently beta testers cannot use it yet. Feature tracker says hopefully WhatsApp Will add a new dedicated section, which will list the upcoming birthdays of the user’s contacts.

This means that WhatsApp can remind users about the birthdays of their friends and family members in the app. One thing to note here is that you will get the reminder only if your contact has told the date of your birth to the instant messaging platform.

The report says that currently WhatsApp uses the data which it had previously collected under legal rules. In some US states, users are required to provide WhatsApp with their date of birth to verify their age. However, this rule is not applicable in other countries. For this reason, WhatsApp does not ask users in other countries and US states for their age. Because WhatsApp can send in-app notifications and show birthdays in special sections only when users voluntarily provide their date of birth.
