Foreign dependency will end, mobile-computer circuit boards will be made in India, the country will save Rs 40 thousand crores.

June 28, 2026 by Uma Shankar

India is now going to take a big step towards self-reliance in the field of electronics. Till now we were completely dependent on foreign countries for ‘Printed Circuit Board’ (PCB), which is the lifeblood of mobiles, computers and other electronic devices, but now these will be produced on a large scale in the country. Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav clarified on Saturday that this indigenous production will save India a huge amount of foreign exchange of about Rs 40,000 crore every year. Jewar area of Uttar Pradesh is going to become the center of this new revolution, where circuit boards with advanced technology will be manufactured.

end dependence on imports

At present, India is the sixth largest electronics exporter in the world. The government now aims to take this leap further and achieve second place in the world. The Union Minister said that Indian industry is no longer limited to just assembly of parts, rather it is rapidly moving towards ‘deep manufacturing’ i.e. manufacturing of basic things. PCB is the most important part of any electronic device. This is the basis through which different parts within the device communicate with each other. Now very advanced PCBs with 20 to 22 layers will be made in the country. The parts which were earlier imported from outside, will now be manufactured here for the whole world under the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Manufacturing of components in the country can reduce the manufacturing cost of electronic goods, which will directly benefit Indian consumers in the long run.

Jewar will become a new electronics hub

To implement this vision, Jewar in Uttar Pradesh is being developed as a major manufacturing hub. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav on Saturday laid the foundation stone of the new electronics manufacturing cluster being built in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YIDA) area. Here, contract manufacturer ‘Amber Enterprises’ is starting a big joint venture worth Rs 3,250 crore with South Korean company ‘Korea Circuit’ (KCC). In this state-of-the-art plant, high-density interconnect (HDI) PCB, flexible PCB as well as semiconductor substrate will be produced in large quantities. Apart from this, Amber Enterprises is setting up another big plant on 100 acres of land with an investment of Rs 3,500 crore. This second unit will mainly manufacture critical parts related to room air conditioners and copper clad laminates.

Direct employment to 3,000 people

The commencement of these two mega projects will not only increase the country’s strength in the technical sector but will also create new employment opportunities at the local level. According to initial estimates, these factories will provide direct employment to about 3,000 people. In this race of industrial development, environmental protection has also been taken full care of. According to Amber Company, both these manufacturing units have been designed on ‘Zero Liquid Discharge’ (ZLD) technology. This simply means that the water coming out of the factory will be completely recycled. Sustainable manufacturing will be promoted by using resources properly, so that in future this big industrial step does not have any negative impact on the environment.
