Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday held a high-level meeting with secretaries to review the progress in sectors related to rural development, agriculture and social welfare towards achieving the goal of a developed India, in which he stressed that the welfare of citizens should be at the center of all reforms. The Prime Minister also stressed the need to evolve the processes of governance according to the changing times. Apart from this, he also stressed on adopting the government’s approach and removing departmental obstacles to achieve the development goals of the nation.
PM Modi said that the dream of developed India should become a mass movement and its foundation should be the youth of the country. He stressed the need for coordinated action against drug addiction and empowering the youth. Apart from this, the PM stressed on adopting an integrated approach to establish India as a global sports hub.
Prime Minister Modi also emphasized the transformative potential of PM-KUSUM scheme and the need for global skill mapping. The secretaries of different ministries who participated in this meeting also shared their experiences and views with PM Modi on the ongoing initiatives and challenges in their respective areas, after which PM Modi gave his suggestions for the future action plan.
What is PM Kusum Yojana?
PM Kusum i.e. Prime Minister Farmers Energy Security and Upliftment Campaign is a scheme of the Central Government. The scheme provides subsidy of up to 60% to farmers for installing standalone solar pumps, converting existing grid-connected agricultural pumps to solar-powered and setting up decentralized solar power plants on barren land to sell power to DISCOMs.
Solar pump becomes a medium of extra income
Through this scheme of the government, many farmers are running their electric irrigation pumps with solar energy and are not only taking advantage of irrigation but are also earning money by selling the extra electricity to the electricity distribution company (DISCOM).
