
During the scorching heat of May and June, Pakistan was not able to get sufficient water from the Indus and its tributaries, the impact of which was seen on the 24 crore people of the country. The Pakistan government officially said that the water crisis arose due to lack of water from the Indus River. There was water shortage in many big cities including Karachi.
According to the official data of the government, earlier Pakistan was getting 21,887 cusecs of water per day from Chenab river, which has reduced to 5,689 cusecs. The figures for Indus and other rivers are even bigger. Now after the end of summer, monsoon has entered Pakistan, after which Pakistan is facing the fear of floods.
dawn newspaper According to this, to avoid floods, the Government of Pakistan has decided to dig the depth of Indus and other rivers through bulldozers. Apart from this, it has been decided to make the rivers encroachment free.
Why was this decision taken?
According to the report, India does not share any data regarding water with Pakistan, due to which Pakistan is not able to get information about how much water it will get from India every day. Pakistan feels that like last time, this time too India may suddenly release water during the rainy season, which may cause floods.
Last time flood had troubled Pakistan a lot. Even Pakistan Army bases in Punjab province were submerged due to floods. More than 1000 people died across Pakistan due to floods. According to an official of Pakistan Irrigation Department, silt will be removed from Indus and other rivers to reduce the impact of floods. Apart from this, the aim is to free it from encroachment.
Earlier news had come that Pakistan has filed a case in the International Court to find a solution to the water dispute. India’s share of expenses in this case is also being borne by Pakistan. Till now, Pakistan has spent Rs 5.77 crore for this.
