
The first International Big Cat Alliance Summit, to be held in Delhi on June 1-2, has been postponed, and a new date for it will be announced later. The summit was being held in conjunction with the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS IV) as many African countries are important partners in global efforts towards conservation, ecological sustainability and biodiversity conservation of big cat animals.
An official in this regard said, following the decision taken in consultation with the Chairperson of the African Union and the African Union Commission, it was decided to hold the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit at a later date.
Announcement of new dates of the summit
It has also been decided that to ensure broad and active participation of all countries, including African countries, the first International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Summit will also be held at a later date. The official said that consultations will be held with the participating countries after the announcement of new dates for the summit.
PM Modi started IBCA
He said that India is strongly committed to working closely with all partners to advance the shared objectives of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. IBCA was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 9, 2023 during a function organized to commemorate 50 years of Project Tiger in Mysore.
It was formally established on March 12, 2024. Officials said that currently IBCA includes 25 signatory countries and five observer countries and Saudi Arabia is going to join this alliance soon.
