Europe is currently in the grip of extreme heat. The situation is such that like India, fire is raining from the sky in many countries of Europe too. At least 7 people have died in heat-related incidents in France, while the temperature in Britain has broken 100-year-old records.
According to experts, a heat dome is currently present in Europe. This is a high pressure system, which works like the lid of a vessel. Due to this, the hot air is not able to go up and remains stuck near the ground. For this reason the temperature is increasing rapidly. Meteorologists say that this situation may persist for several days or weeks. Due to climate change its effect is becoming more dangerous.
Runner dies of heart attack in Paris
France’s Junior Energy Minister Maud Bregon said that 7 people have died in heat-related incidents in the country. Of these, 5 people died due to drowning on the lake, river or sea shore. A 53-year-old runner died of a heart attack during a race in Paris. Apart from this, a woman died of heatstroke in Lyon city.
French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari said that some sports competitions had to be canceled due to the extreme heat. The French weather agency on Monday recorded the hottest day ever in the month of May. The Meteorological Department says that this heatwave may continue for the whole week. Orange alert has been issued in many areas including Paris and Brittany. The temperature was expected to reach 36 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
Temperature record broken in London
Even in Britain the heat has broken all records. The temperature was recorded at 34.8 degrees Celsius in London’s famous Kew Gardens. This is 2 degrees more than the old record of the month of May. Britain has recorded the hottest day of May for the second time within 24 hours. Tropical Night was also recorded in London. This means that even at night the temperature did not go below 20 degrees Celsius. Usually in Europe the weather becomes cool at night, but this time people did not get respite from the heat even at night.
Climate change is the reason
Meteorologists say that due to increasing climate change caused by humans, such dangerous heatwaves are now becoming more intense and lasting longer. This is the reason why new heat records are being made every year in Europe.
