Who destroyed the evidence? How many offerings were wasted? After all, who is involved in this, who is being saved, who is being hidden? These questions still remain the same in the Ram Temple offering theft case. SIT investigation has been done, FIR has been lodged, arrest of 8 accused and now after judicial custody, police action is in full speed and efforts are being made to find out that apart from the 8 arrested people, how many more people are involved in this offering theft?
theft of offerings The court has sent 8 accused to judicial custody till July 13. Expanding the scope of investigation in this case, the police have recorded the statement of Champat Rai, the general secretary of the trust. Apart from Champat Rai, the statement of Krishna Mohan, who lodged the FIR for theft of offerings, has also been recorded.
Actually, apart from these 8 accused, some bank employees are also on the police radar. Police notice has been given to 2 bank employees, their names are Gagandeep-Ratnesh Chaturvedi. There are questions on the role of both.
It is being claimed that Ratnesh Chaturvedi and Gagandeep were handling the role of surveillance and such a big robbery could not have happened without their help.
In the investigation so far, two types of thefts have been detected.
- The first method was that the accused used to withdraw cash by avoiding the sight of cameras.
- Another way, if they were not able to steal the cash, they would reduce the entry of Rs 4-5 lakh in the register and later withdraw the same amount while depositing it in the bank.
Investigating agencies believe that without the connivance of bank employees this game would not have been possible for a long time. According to sources, the SIT is now also investigating the role of a senior bank official. More arrests are expected in the case.
Police interrogation of arrested accused
Apart from this, the police is investigating a newly constructed two-storey house belonging to accused Luv Kush Mishra. This house was built very fast in Shahadatganj area of Ayodhya and was almost ready in three-four months. Luv Kush Mishra was part of the counting team. Meanwhile, the parents of Avinash Shukla, arrested in the theft case, are very hurt by the arrest of their son. He says that God will give the fruits of his son’s deeds.
The people who are arrested. The police is already interrogating him and the people associated with him. Police have also recorded the statement of former general secretary of the trust, Champat Rai. Apart from this, statements of Anil Mishra and Gopal Ji Rao will also be recorded. Champat Rai and Anil Mishra have resigned from the trust, while Gopal Ji Rao remains in the trust. Police have also recorded the statement of Krishna Mohan, who lodged the FIR on behalf of the Trust.
However, amidst all this, the lawyers of Ayodhya have announced that they will not fight the case of these accused. The lawyers have demanded that Champat Rai, Gopal Rao and Anil Mishra leave Ayodhya, if they do not do so then there will be an agitation.
Suspense increases with new revelations every day
Meanwhile, some surprising information has come to light in the theft of Ram temple offerings. According to sources, the temple trust had got information about the theft even before it became public. It is being told that on June 5 itself, the officials of the Trust, along with the security personnel and the police, had recovered about Rs 58 lakh from the houses of the accused, while the accused had withdrawn the remaining amount from their bank accounts and returned it to the Trust by June 8.
Despite total recovery of Rs 79.85 lakh, FIR was not lodged for about 20 days, due to which serious questions have been raised on the role of the Trust and its General Secretary Champat Rai and member Anil Mishra.
According to sources, on June 4, trust officials found bundles of notes from the toilet of the counting room. On June 5, the police team along with trust officials reached Avinash Shukla’s house. There he was interrogated. Cash was also recovered from his house.
Questions on the role of trust officials
It is being said that after this the police took Avinash Shukla with them for questioning. There is also a 24 second video of this, which is of 8.13 pm on June 5th. The person seen in the yellow shirt in the video is said to be Avinash Shukla, while a temple employee is holding a black bag in his hand. According to sources, there was money in the black bag. There were about three to four lakh rupees in the bundle.
Now the question is that when the theft came to light on June 4 and the first recovery took place on June 5, then why did Champat Rai say on June 8 that till now there has been no talk of theft of offerings. Was there an attempt to save someone? After all, why was Champat Rai getting a private investigation done?
During the investigation, the most suspicion is being cast on Tinnu Yadav. Sources say that it has also come to light that metals found in offerings were found with him. However, what is interesting is that when recovery was being done by visiting the houses of other accused, the team did not reach Tinnu’s house on the first day. It is alleged that after interrogation, he asked for only one lakh rupees and gave it, due to which the question arises whether he got a chance to dispose of the remaining amount and goods.
Another important fact has come to light in the case. According to sources, the official vehicle of the Trust was not used during the recovery operation. It is being told that it is mandatory to make an entry in the logbook whenever the trust vehicle goes out. In such a situation, the officials reached the house of the accused in private vehicles, due to which no official vehicle recording of the entire operation could be done.
Now the question is that when the Trust was already aware of the theft, then who was protecting the suspects?
- According to sources, some people engaged in counting the offerings were under suspicion for 3 months.
- The process of removing him was also started.
- But this action was stopped due to the intervention of senior officials of the Trust.
- Now the question is that when the theft was known for 3 months, then it is possible that the theft might have been happening before that.
- Where the decision was taken to remove the suspects, then which Trust official saved them?
- If the questionable personnel had been removed at the same time, would the alleged misappropriation of donations worth crores of rupees have been stopped?
According to sources, the employees involved in counting the donations were appointed by an outsourcing company through SBI. Many employees including Anukalp Mishra, Lavkush Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav, Ramashankar Mishra, Avneesh and Karunesh Shukla were engaged in this work for a long time. A bank official became suspicious of his functioning, after which the process of replacing him was started.
Trust and bank employees under investigation
It is said that the bank had also informed the trust about this proposal. Meanwhile, the concerned employees requested the Trust officials not to remove them. Sources claim that Trust General Secretary Champat Rai, Member Dr. Anil Mishra and Construction Assistant Gopal Rao intervened and told the bank officials that no employee would be removed. After this the change process was stopped.
Sources related to the investigation believe that the protection given to the employees boosted their morale and the alleged manipulation of offerings continued. If rotation of employees had been done in time, the network of alleged theft could have been broken earlier.
The question is that when Champat Rai told the police about the theft on June 4, then first of all we need to know how Champat Rai got the information about the theft?
- On June 5, Ayodhya Police raided the house of the accused, the question is whether only Champat Rai, Anil Mishra knew this?
- On June 5 itself, there was talk of recovery of Rs 80 lakh from theft, the question is where was the recovered amount of theft of offering kept?
- Anukalp Mishra’s house was raided on June 5 itself, so why was FIR not registered after the stolen money was recovered?
- Formation of SIT was announced from Lucknow on June 13. The question is that even if FIR was not filed, was evidence made missing?
- SIT had reached Ayodhya for investigation on June 15, so the question is, what was hidden in the 10 days from June 5 to June 15?
- On June 15, CCTV footage till April 27 was found, the question is, what is the guarantee that theft did not happen before that?
- The video on June 15 is not from before April 27, what is the basis that the theft took place only after that?
- On June 25, FIR was registered in the name of 8 people, the question is whether the evidence was completely destroyed in 20 days?
- On June 25, FIR was registered on the request of the Trust, but why not a case against Champat Rai and Anil Mishra for destroying evidence?
- On June 25, the SIT report was given to the Trust. Why was the SIT report given to those who were already under investigation?
- On June 27, Champat Rai and Anil Mishra resigned, question – Why did the treasurer not resign in the matter of misappropriation of money?
- On June 27, 8 accused appeared in the court, the question is why the police did not seek remand of the accused?
Keep an eye on police action
When the 8 accused arrested in the offering theft case were produced before the court for the first time on June 26, they were not taken on police remand. The second appearance took place on June 29, today again the police did not ask for remand. Now questions are being raised that
- Why is the police not asking for remand of the accused?
- Will the investigation move in the right direction without remand?
- The accused will not get a chance to change the facts?
- Will the accused not come together and fabricate some story in jail?
First the delay in FIR and now the whole system of police not asking for remand during investigation, we talked to legal experts, listen to what they are saying. Who is saving whom in this matter?
Politics intensifies on theft of offerings
Amidst all this, political attacks are also continuing. Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has said that it is by the grace of Ram ji that people are being exposed in cases of theft. Congress has announced that tomorrow a delegation of its MPs and leaders will go to Ayodhya. Will take up this matter after darshan and worship in Ram temple.
Meanwhile, debate started among the religious leaders also. Some religious leaders are angry with the existing trust and some are angry as to why there is talk of appointment of CEO in Ram temple?
Acharya Mithilesh Nandini Sharan Maharaj raised the question that Ram temple will be built in Ayodhya and bureaucrats will run it. Ayodhya belongs to the saints. It belongs to the followers of Sanatan Dharma, the arrangements of Ram temple should be according to the tradition of saints.
Offerings worth crores of rupees in religious places every year
Every year, offerings and donations of gold and silver jewelery worth crores of rupees come to the major religious places of the country. If we talk about Mahakal Temple of Ujjain, the total income of the temple is estimated to be around Rs 142 crore in 2025-26, out of which around Rs 80 crore has been received only from donations.
About 550 kg gold and 7 thousand kg silver have been kept safe with the Shirdi Trust, but till now no case of theft has come to light. Apart from these two temples, there are many temples which claim to have CCTV surveillance, digital records and transparent counting system, which also appears transparent.
Ram Mandir is not just a temple, but a symbol of decades long movement, faith and national sentiments of crores of people. In such a situation, it was expected that the administration and system here would become an example of transparency and Ram Raj for the whole world, but the allegations of theft of offerings have raised many such questions, which will now have to be answered not only by the investigating agencies but also by the trust and the entire system. After all, why was the faith of the common people hurt and why was there an attempt to hide it?
