FIFA World Cup 2026: Tickets for quarterfinal match reduced by 60% in one fell swoop, why?

July 8, 2026 by Uma Shankar

FIFA World Cup 2026: The FIFA World Cup 2026 has now reached its most exciting phase. The quarterfinal matches are going to start from this week, but before that a big news has come out for the football fans. Tickets for one of the biggest knockout matches of the tournament have now become much cheaper than before.

According to secondary ticket platform TickPick, there has been a big drop in the price of the cheapest ticket for the quarterfinal match between Spain and Belgium to be held on Friday. Earlier the ticket for this match had reached around $2,950, but now its starting price has come down to around $1,200. That means there has been a reduction of almost 60 percent in the ticket price.

That’s why ticket prices fell

The biggest reason for this decline is believed to be America’s exit from the tournament. It is the co-host country of FIFA World Cup 2026. America was eliminated by Belgium in the pre-quarterfinals by defeating them 4-1. If the United States had reached the quarterfinals, ticket prices could have increased even higher due to strong demand from domestic spectators.

The second major reason for low ticket prices is Portugal’s exclusion. Spain defeated Portugal 1-0 and eliminated them from the tournament. With this defeat, the FIFA World Cup career of legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo also ended. Ronaldo is counted among the most popular players in the world, so his exclusion has also had a big impact on the demand for tickets. After the match, a disappointed Ronaldo confirmed that this was the last World Cup of his career.

The cheapest ticket for this match

Many experts believed that if America and Portugal had come face to face in the quarterfinals, it could have become the most talked about match of the tournament. The presence of the host country on one side and a superstar like Ronaldo on the other side could have pushed the ticket prices to record levels. Whereas, if we talk about other quarterfinal matches, the match between France and Morocco is considered to be the cheapest at the moment. According to TickPick, tickets for this match are available from around $989.

Now these teams will compete

The quarterfinals will start on Friday with the France vs Morocco match. After this there will be a clash between Spain and Belgium. The match will be played between Norway and England on Sunday. After this, current champion Argentina will face Switzerland. All four matches of the quarterfinals will be played in different stadiums. The winners of these matches will make it to the semi-finals to be held next week. Now the eyes of the whole world are fixed on these exciting matches.
