FIFA World Cup 2026: This happened for the first time in World Cup history, excitement crossed limits in Switzerland-Bosnia match

June 19, 2026 by Uma Shankar

FIFA World Cup 2026: Switzerland’s football team registered its name in the pages of history in the FIFA World Cup 2026. In an exciting match of Group B, Switzerland defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1. With this, the Swiss team also opened its victory account. Their first match had ended in a draw, but this time Switzerland showed an amazing game and achieved a big feat by scoring several goals one after the other in the last moments.

This happened for the first time in World Cup history

Something happened in this match which was never seen before in the history of the World Cup. In fact, neither of the two teams could score a goal for the first 73 minutes of the match. But after the 74th minute the fate of the match completely changed. Switzerland scored all four goals in or after the 74th minute of the game. This is the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup that a team has scored 4 goals in the last round of the match. Apart from this, a total of 5 goals were scored in the match, Bosnia also scored one goal, which came only after the 74th minute, which is a unique world record in itself. Before this, 5 goals were not seen after 73 minutes in any match.

Substitute players turned the tables

The changes made by Switzerland coach Murat Yakin in the second half of the match proved to be a masterstroke. Substitute players Johan Mzambi and Ruben Vargas, who came from the bench, changed the direction of the match as soon as they arrived. Johan Manjambi gave the team a 1-0 lead by scoring a rebound volley from an excellent cross by Ruben Vargas. Soon after, Bosnian defender Tarik Muharemovic incorrectly blocked Briel Embolo on a brilliant pass from Mzambi, due to which Muharemovic was shown a straight red card and thrown off the field.

After this, Ruben Vargas showed excellent finishing and made the score 2-0. Then in the 90th minute Manjambi scored his second goal and made the score 3-0. With this, Mzambi has become one of the youngest players to score two goals in World Cup history. In the very last moments of the match, Ermin Mehmik of Bosnia and Herzegovina scored the only goal for his team through a powerful shot and the score was 3-1. However, Switzerland did not give Bosnia any chance to make a comeback. Switzerland got a penalty due to a foul on Djibril Sov in the injury time of the game, which their experienced captain Granit Jaka converted into a goal without making any mistake and gave his team a historic 4-1 victory.
